Amazon last minute pre-order discounts?

I had I am Legend pre-ordered over a month ago on Amazon for approx 27.99. As the release date approached, they lowered the price to 18.99 approx. It seems that pre-ordering far from release dates may be a mistake.

I will pre-order very close to the actual release date from now on.

when you preorder from amazon, it doesn't charge you until it sends and it will charge you the cheapest price available during the entire time you had it preordered

No need to do that, they will give you the lowest current price the day they ship out your product. It happens to me a few times.

I thought as a guru you should already know this? Amazon's pre-order price guarantee will make sure you get the lowest price by the time it ships. I pre-ordered I Am Legend last month at $24.95, but I received an email yesterday that it has been shipped and the price they charged was only $18.95, same as everyone else.

Thanks for the info..I didn't know they did that. I just normally cancel it and just re-order. lol.

Problem with last minute ordering from Amazon is they will ship it 4 days after it's released. Example: If a new movie is due out on the 10th and you order it on the 6th. They will electronically ship it on the 10th
(meaning they will notify the shipping co. but, the actual item won't be physcally shipped till the 12th). It takes another 2 days to get to my house. So I won't recieve anything till the 14th. I have also ordered items weeks before the release date and recieved them on the release date from Amazon.

Mine shipped today at $18.95 I cannot remember what the pre-order cost was but it was in the 20's.

Do you have Prime?

No matter when I order, whether it's a month before or a few days before the release day, they ship it on the day before street date.

I just ordered I Am Legend and Enchanted on Sunday, and they shipped on Monday.

You can't always count on a last minute price reduction. For example, Both National Treasure BD preordered dropped in price on Amazon for just a couple of days to $19.95. I added them to my shopping cart, but waited too long to submit the order. The price went back up.

as soon as you hit the place order button they explain that you get the lowest price that is marked down

Definitely pre-order it the moment you decide you want it. Then you don't have to worry about or lament not catching it when it's on sale.
