According to IMDBpro:

The movie is still in active development at Fox. John Singleton has reportedly left the project. Bruce Willis is Hannibal (rumored). Woody Harrelson is Murdock (rumored). Ice Cube is B.A. (rumored). Dan Morton is Face (rumored). The plot is as follows: A group of Iraq War veterans looks to clear their name with the U.S. military, who suspect the four men of committing a crime for which they were framed.

Default Joe Carnahan takes on "The A-Team"

From Variety...

Quote:
Twentieth Century Fox has assembled a creative team to transform 1980s TV series "The A-Team" into a summer 2010 film.

Studio has set Joe Carnahan to direct and Ridley Scott to produce, with Tony Scott exec producing through their Scott Free banner.

Also producing are Jules Daly and Stephen J. Cannell, the latter of whom created the original TV series.

Carnahan will team with Brian Bloom to polish a script by Skip Woods ("G.I. Joe"). The intention is to start production by June for a June 11, 2010, release.

Fox has struggled to find a way to exploit the branded TV show while avoiding the series' campy tone. Director John Singleton had most recently been attached to such an attempt before dropping out. Woods came in and started over.

"Tony and I feel that marrying this Scott Free project with Joe’s sensibility will result in a fast-paced, exciting franchise, one we hope will be around for years to come," Scott said.

Carnahan and the Scott brothers say they will use the original premise of the series as the template for an action film. In the original, four Vietnam vets convicted of armed robbery escape from military prison and became do-gooder mercenaries.

The Middle East will replace Vietnam as the place the four did their tour of duty, but Carnahan said the origin story is the jumping-off point.

"You can ... make a film that reflects on the real world without losing the great sense of fun and the velocity of action in a classic summer popcorn film," Carnahan said.

Carnahan has put his Pablo Escobar film "Killing Pablo" on the back burner. The project was complicated by the bankruptcy filing made by the Yari Film Group.

"I am determined to make that movie there or elsewhere, but it's an interesting time in Hollywood, and you have to be aware when you get the opportunity to step into a business model that is working," Carnahan said, noting that many of the top-grossing studio films are based on branded properties.

"This was a coveted property, and reimagining a show that I remembered as a kid was tough to turn down," Carnahan said. "Fox hired me to make it as emotional, real and accessible as possible without cheesing it up."

Ice Cube has expressed his interest in the role in the past and was seemingly almost a sure-thing before Singleton dropped out of the project.

Man, they have to be pretty desparate for ideas and scripts to resort to this idea. It's like the Dukes of Hazzard film... why bother?

Don't forget the G.I. Joe film. Hollywood has no creativity left.

There are tons (and I mean TONS) of scripts and original ideas out there... it's just that Hollywood and Co. do not want to take risks and therefore will go for and bank on either already-existing material or something that has a clearly-marketable (i.e. "high concept") angle to it.

It's about money and making the most possible.

Yea, replacing all the main characters is too tough imo. This is a bad, bad idea.

I absolutely love the show, but I dont see this being good at all.

It sounds like they're trying to make a generic action flick (nothing wrong with that) and sticking the A-Team name on it (so very wrong to do that).

I pity the fools.

I don't know about this, I can't see how they could just remake this series into a movie

Exactly:

Take Repo: The Genetic Opera as an example {yes I like this movie} It's like a mix between Blade Runner, and House of 1000 corpses set up like a traditional Opera.

Lionsgate has given it very little funding for advertising, it's being taken care of soley by the fans going out and gathering up people to go and see the movie. It's new, it's creative as hell, but Lionsgate doesn't want to give it the respect it would even give something like the Saw franchise.

Talking Has 'The A-Team' Found Their B.A. Baracus?!?!

Quote:
After sitting on a news tip for more than a week, IESB targets a potential B.A. Baracus for 20th Century Fox's new adaptation of the '80's television series to be directed by Joe Carnahan.

A few weeks ago, an industry source told the IESB that there was a strong contender to play B.A. Baracus and he was someone that had worked with Carnahan in Smokin' Aces - That someone? Common.

We decided to hold off on posting the news since we knew we had an exclusive interview scheduled with Common during the Terminator Salvation press tour.

Today was the day to find out if he really is in talks. What did we find out? That it's true!

So this morning, I asked Common point blank about the industry whispers regarding him possibly taking on the role that Mr. T made famous.

Plus, he also talked about a few tid bits from George Miller's Justice League film he was cast in as Green Lantern.

IESB: Your name keeps popping up, I was at a premiere the other day and was talking to some industry friends and they are like, "[we] would love Common as a certain character in a certain Joe Carnahan movie.”

Common: (Laughing) Yeah, that would be [something].

IESB: B.A. Baracus

Common: Yeah that would be something cool, but, I mean, let's see, I can't speak on it yet until we know what's going on but that would be an incredible character to play.

IESB: You worked with Carnahan before.

Common: Carnahan is my guy.

IESB: I don't know if the mohawk is going to work on you. (Laughing)

Common: (laughing) I can't do the Mohawk but we got to do something, we got to find something to make it work.

IESB: That is something you would like to do?

Common: I would love to, just to work with Joe is so exciting for me I just had such a great experience. I feel that he is one of the freshest directors and innovative guys and fun, he is a quality guy, quality director and man, I just want to work with him.

IESB: I'm hearing that if it happens we should be hearing something pretty soon?

Common: Yes, that's what they are saying, if it goes. But you know you need to keep your pace and patience and let things develop. I've been a part of, I mean, Justice League and we rehearsed and everything.

IESB: Suits and all, right?

Common: Yeah I had my costume and everything so you know you just keep that faith and let things flow and not be to anxious and let things go. Right now I'm in Date Night which is a comedy with Steve Carrell and Tina Fey and I'm excited about that. So that's Fox too!

IESB: Do you prefer one genre over another? You are still attached to Justice League, it's just on hold, right?

Common: Yeah

IESB: Potential Jon Stewart/Green Lantern, Terminator, possible B.A. Baracus. Is this the stuff that you like? Or do you also like "artsy" films?

Common: I like to do all quality stuff, it could be, lets see what a good example? It could be Half Nelson, if I get a good role like that or it could be a B.A. I want it to be as diverse as possible, first of all I don't want act like I've been given the role of B.A. So let me be honest about that.

IESB: We know that. But we know that you are being considered.

Common: Yes and it's great to be in those talks because to be considered to be in another Joe Carnahan movie would be just an honor for me.

IESB: God willing that you get to do B.A. Baracus, is it a different take? Anything like Mr. T?

Common: You definetly have to give it something different.

IESB: No chains?

Common: It's a new day, you just got to give it something new. The kids don't know that B.A. so you wanna bring something new to it and you want to pay respect to B.A. and the way B.A, was created too. I believe there is a way to find a combination, I have certain similarities to Mr. T already. We are both from Chicago, we are both rebels in our own way. I could really get that.

See Common as Barnes in TERMINATOR SALVATION that opens in theaters May 21.

I don't think he's the best choice, I would have gone with Terry Crews from Idiocracy!

Hahaha Cheesburger Eddie as well. So this B.A. won't have a mohawk because common apparently can't grow hair, and that's why he's bald. But I do agree with the no gold chains either, cause than he'd look like every loser rapper there is with gold to his waist and a grill. So that's possibly alright to change, just curious as to how this shapes up. I really did like Carnahan's Smokin' Aces so only time will tell.

People need to drop the whole Justice League thing. It's not happening for a long time if ever. Any sensible actor wouldn't sit around waiting for what's basically film vaporware.
