Disney TRON: Legacy (2010)

From AICN HERE

Original Film On Blu-Ray
One of our readers, Guido Anselm, sent the following in after beholding the new TRON LEGACY trailer at last weekend's premiere events. Sounds like early indications of the original film being issued on Blu-Ray circa LEGACY's debut are...not surprisingly...correct.
Guido was able to glean a few more details about its issuance by virtue of his placement in one particular theater - where original TRON overlord Steven Lisberger (also a writer/producer on the new film) was in attendance.
It turns out my buddy and I were sitting right in front of Lisberger and we overheard him talking about how he just finished over-seeing complete color-correction and major enhancements to the original TRON for BLU RAY! It sounded like he basically kept the movie the same (no CGI inserted) but corrected the colors throughout the entire film and enhanced everything. He said it was a dream to go back to something he made thirty years ago and correct it to look exactly how he would want it for the Blu Ray release (which he made no mention of when that would happen). Anyway, Lisberger never mentioned any of that in the Q and A and I thought youguys would want to know about it.

Dude, I was sitting several people to the right of you! I was so envious when the guy in front of Steve put the TRON DVD in front of him to sign, lol! Thanks for the update.

One of the great things about sequels/remakes is that it pretty much guarantees a blu release of the original. I'm really looking forward to Tron Legacy, but even if it sucks, it's worth it to get a kick-ass blu of the original.

Day 1 purchase. In fact, this may be a vacation-day from work, pop some corn, and hang in the home theater all day purchase.

So, does anyone know what's up with the post-screening Flynn Lives.com site?

There seems to be some matching-game of old trading cards up there now (to reveal the Pit Cell screening site), with only one matching pair.
I'm guessing those who were close enough to the cities to get the codes from the "operatives" have to enter some sequence of numbers, but, um....help?

That is pretty much it as of now until the next update.
Click on the cards and it flips to show part of a puzzle much like the original cards did.
The rest was to open the ticket process for the trailer screening.

What does "no CGI inserted" but "enhanced everything" mean exactly? Does it mean that no additional CG inserted, but what is there has been redone, to what it should look like today, but still maintaining the basic look? Because I saw an airing of TRON on HD broadcast and it looked extremely soft and low-res, I mean the CG stuff. Especially the light cycles. Comparing the original film to what's in the new LEGACY trailer, it's like comparing graphics from a Atari 2600 to an Xbox 360.

That said, I'd probably buy the remastered version once I see some reviews of it here. If they can get it to look anything like a semi-modern film, I'll bite.

They have done an extensive re-mastering, but no new FX work has been done.

That's what he's saying

Ideally IMO, they would have gone back to the film and recomposited all the computer world stuff and repainted the circuits. All the B&W base footage is shot 65mm. Yum. Of course that's millions and millions of dollars to do.

God. I can't wait for Tron on Blu-Ray.

And agreed, while I'm not a huge fan of remakes and such... it does get the original on Blu-Ray.

And I agree with Jeff, I wish they would spend the money to repaint all the circuits.

There's a few shots in the film where they're not done all that well. But I'll take it any way they give it.

Exactly, nothing has been George Lucassed- just cleaned up and polished.
The flicker is the biggest thing that I am sure will be giving them the most issue and I can not wait to see how it comes out.

Absolutely thrilled. As soon as an actual release date is confirmed my (much loved) DVD set is going on ebay!

Iam also in the line for Tron on BD. Knowing this is coming from the Disney camp, I am sure it will satisfy as expected. As for Tron Legacy? Even if the storyline is weak and the movie overall is weak, it's gonna have the new Lightcycles!! Thats enough for me!!

NEWS UPDATE: This new HD transfer may already be complete. If you have HDNET on your cable/satellite system, HDNET is premiering TRON in HD this Wednesday night at 9pm E/8pm C.

Just got this news off of DigitalBits for the MyTwoCents 3/1/10 entry.

I think the whole film was shot in 65mm yes? That's my recollection from the DVD commentary anyway, good times.

WELL,

Is this the same digital HD transfer they showed at a screening last year? It was highly criticized as being lackluster and filled with speckles...

If you go to the I/O TOWER FORUMS, you will read reviews of that screening from TRON long time fans.
