I was once a pretty serious vinyl collector. When vinyl seemingly was on it's last legs in the late 80's/early 90's I continued to collect. Records were incredibly cheap and easy to obtain then because nobody wanted them anymore. I also worked at a number of used record stores throughout college and was constantly bringing stuff home.
I moved from one coast to the next and I made the difficult decision to sell the vast majority of my collection to another collector that I knew. I just couldn't bring my collection and I was offered a very generous amount of money that I couldn't turn down. Some of my collection that didn't go to the collector went down to a friends basement for safe keeping. I ended up moving back to the east coast and forgot that I had left some records there. A few days ago he gives me a call to tell me that he's moving and to come and get my shit or he's going to give it away. Turns out I left more down there than I remembered, and some of them are pretty cool. Have a look: Some proto-punk/space rock/garage rock/psych rock MC5 - Kick out the Jams (this is the original rare gatefold with "motherfu*ker" in the liner notes) Hawkwind - Doremi Fasol Latido Nazz - original 1967 self titled album (Todd Rundgren's first band) Atomic Rooster - In Hearing of ![]() The Stooges/Alex Chilton/The Clash/The Damned ![]() Some stoner rock/sludge, etc Monster Magnet/Kyuss/Fu Manchu/Melvins ![]() I have all the Thin Lizzy albums in there, here are 4 ![]() Some punk/hardcore stuff Black Flag/Gang Green/Token Entry ![]() Some metal stuff W.A.S.P./Ozzy/Judas Priest/Loudness ![]() Some Psych, etc Captain Beefheart/Pink Fairies/Atomic Rooster/Pink Floyd ![]() Mudhoney/Supersuckers/Severed Heads/24-7 Spyz ![]() The Stranglers/The Suburbs/Girl/Godfathers ![]() Some comedy albums ![]() Tons of stuff like KISS and Black Sabbath ![]() ![]() I also left a bunch of 7-inches in there. Here are some interesting ones: Probot(Dave Grohl's metal project featuring guest singers) - Centuries of Sin(ft Cronos of Venom)/The Emerald Law(ft Wino of The Obsessed, Saint Vitus, Spirit Caravan, etc) on green vinyl. PAW - Sleeping Bag/Hard Pig - self released 7-inch from this underrated early grunge band from Kansas. They would go on to score a minor hit with "Jessie" from their debut album "Dragline". On yellow vinyl. Spirit Caravan - So Mortal Be/Undone Mind. On white vinyl. Melvins/Patton Owalt split 7-inch - Boss Hoss/The Two dumbest c*nts in the World. Strange split. The Melvins doing a Sonics cover and Oswalt doing a bit on the flip side. Clear vinyl. ![]() I have some Pearl Jam fan club 7-inches that an ex girlfriend gave to me because she didn't own a record player. ![]() There's tons of other stuff too. Hope you enjoyed looking at some of these. Now I have to figure out what I'm going to do with all them. Sell or hang on to them? |
