I really wish Sony would release these shows (and movie) in 4K UHD now, with a Dolby Atmos track for El Camino as well.
If it's taking long for them to release these shows (and movie) in 4K UHD, they might be doing a Dolby Vision grade for the shows alongside Dolby Atmos remixes (I just hope the original DTS-HD MA 5.1 tracks are included as well). Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul are shows that deserve to be in 4K UHD. They have 4K SDR streams on Netflix. Breaking Bad was mastered in 2K (but later had a 4K remaster from the original 35mm negatives) while Better Call Saul was shot in 6K and mastered in 4K from the start. El Camino is also shot in 6K and mastered in 4K. Even if Sony does not do Dolby Vision/HDR10 regrades for the disc releases, 4K SDR is possible and Sony did author a disc in 4K SDR with a BT.2020 colour grade in Evangelion: 3.333 You Can (Not) Redo., which was mastered by Sony for King Records and Studio Khara. I bet that 4K UHD releases would make bank for Sony even more than their Columbia Classics box sets. |
