Got VCI's new release of Universal's final serial from 1946, THE MYSTERIOUS MR. M. 13 chapters on a single BD50.
Mastered from Universal's fine grain, it looks great except for the ungraded low contrast transfer that has been seen on all of these VCI/Universal remasters. It might actually be a bit better in that regard than some of the other recent titles, but shadows remain milky. I can live with it, though, but it's a shame that VCI elected to forgo grading these great scans. Fun to notice that the background footage under the credits features Rondo Hatton's shadow and the shadows of Rathbone/Bruce walking (without the fog!) cribbed from other Universal titles! |
