Default Dumb and Dumber To (2014)

Quote:
The Farrelly Brothers Working on 'Dumb and Dumber' Sequel

It hadn’t occurred to me that we might get another Dumb and Dumber, but now that the idea’s been floated, I’m finding it has the ring of inevitability about it. At the Sydney press junket for Hall Pass this weekend, Dumb and Dumber co-director Bob Farrelly announced that he and brother/co-director Peter Farrelly were planning a sequel to their 1994 hit. Dumb and Dumber is the movie that initially put the Farrelly Brothers on the map, kicking off a successful career that includes There’s Something About Mary, Shallow Hal and (my personal favorite of their films — yeah, yeah, judge all you want) Stuck on You, among others. Read Bob Farrelly’s quote after the jump.

The sequel is still in the very, very early stages at this point, but Bob Farrelly made it clear he’s put some thought into it already:

Quote:
[Dumb and Dumber] has run a bunch of times on TV in the states, and kids will come up and they’ll be able to quote lines from that – lines that I’ve long forgotten. If we could get those two guys back together, Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels that might be a worthwhile sequel – and that ball is in motion. We’re starting to think about what those two dimwits would be doing twenty-years later in life, and hopefully we’ll be able to come up with something worthy of a sequel.
On the one hand, I have no particular desire to see another Dumb and Dumber. The original was great, but given the choice between a Dumb and Dumber follow-up and a fresh new concept, I’d go with the latter. On the other, given Hollywood’s current obsessions with remaking, rebooting, or revisiting everything we loved in the ’80s, ’90s and even ’00s, it seems all but inevitable that someone would at least attempt to make one. If Dumb and Dumber must get a sequel, I’d rather it be done properly, with the original cast and crew.

The Dumb and Dumber follow-up would be the Farrelly Brothers’ first sequel, but not the film’s. In 1995, ABC premiered a cartoon based on the movie, with Bill Fagerbakke and Matt Frewer as Harry and Lloyd, respectively. If you’re wondering why you don’t remember this, it’s probably because the show lasted a measly 13 episodes. And in 2003, Troy Miller directed Dumb and Dumberer, a prequel starring Eric Christian Olsen and Derek Richardson. Neither the Farrelly Brothers nor any of the original stars were involved. It earned a cringe-inducing 10% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Keep in mind that the Farrelly Brothers’ proposed sequel is barely more than idle chatter at this point, and could very well end up taking a different route, or falling apart entirely. And besides, it’s bound to be a ways off still — they’re currently at work on the Three Stooges movie, which is scheduled to begin shooting this spring.

Discuss: Dumb and Dumber sequel — yea or nay?

I honestly hope this happens! I love the first and I would love to see a second with Carrey and Daniels.

From what I remember, Jim Carrey said that he rather act in a new movie than do sequels so don't hold your breath...

I hope this will happen. Dumb and Dumber is a comic masterpeice and one of the most quoteable funny movies Ive ever seen. However its prequel Dumb and Dumberer was a disaster and completly unfunny with a cookie cutter plot. Id love a worthy followup for Harry and Loyd even with 20 years between them

I would love to see a TRUE sequel to this movie. Loyd and Harry, 20 years later! haha, that would be awesome only if original cast remains.

The first Dumb and Dumber is probably my personal favorite funniest movie of all time--not the wittiest or sharpest or 'greatest' comedy of course, but it sure does make me laugh even after seeing it like 50+ times. IF they get Carrey and Daniels back to reprise their roles, then it might work. It (certainly) won't be as good probably, but I'm sure there'll be some laughs.

Well, if that meant that they released the THEATRICAL CUT on a remastered Blu-ray, then I am all for it.

I HATE the Unrated cut, as it makes the movie way too serious, and gross.

I can't watch it anymore.

Let's see if they can really get Jim Carrey to do it.

I miss good old Jim!

+1 I prefer the theatrical cut as well, a much more funnier film IMO

The Ferrelly's Bros. have made some very hilarious films in the past. Fox, we need Kingpin on blu, please!

Honestly, Carrey needs a hit. If what the Farrelly's come up with is good, I wouldn't see why he'd pass it up. It's been a long time since he has had a comedy hit, so we'll see what happens.

A Christmas Carol isn't a comedy, unless your being sarcastic.

But his last great comedy was years ago. I mean, Yes Man was good, but it wasn't great. I want to see Carrey in full blown insanity mode again. I'd even like to see another Ace Ventura.

I can't really see Jim Carrey or Jeff Daniels in their respective roles again. They both have changed quite a bit in looks and acting in my opinion. Dumb and Dumber is pretty hilarious, so if they could pull it off, I would be all for it. As others have said, Jim Carrey hasn't really had to many hits lately.

I actually just watched this recently after years of avoiding it. The bad word of mouth kept me away, but my curiosity finally got the better of me. Honestly, it wasn't nearly as bad as I had heard or expected. BUT, it wasn't really any good either. When taken on its own terms, it's a pretty forgettable comedy with a few laughs here and there. Do NOT compare it to the original though. It's not even close to the same quality. The 2 leads do ok Carrey and Daniels impressions though, IMO.

and i love Jim Carrey but the guy doesnt get much work anymore
im sure if he got offered it, he would do it.
im sure him and The Farrellys are still friends and want to work together and i remember Jeff Daniels would do it if Jims up for it
so im sure if Bobby and Peter can work up a good script they will do it eventually
