Default Done with Digital

Long time movie fanatic and rabid collector here. I have several thousand movies (Laser Disc, DVD, Blu-ray and now 4K) and have been collecting for years.

Although I have a server with a big portion of my "main" collection, I have many discs and still use them. I was never really into collecting "Digital" movies but recently started building my collection from titles that came along with discs I was purchasing.

I continued to get more titles by purchasing "cheap" codes to add to my collection.

But than I started getting frustrated with all the UV crap and not having certain titles available on various platforms. Ultimately, that's what caused me to throw in the towel on Digital.

I won't go into all the other reasons (rights being a big one) why I was never a big fan of Digital to begin with, but I've decided I'm done with it and will stop buying/redeeming all together.

Not here to pi$$ on Digital or start another "Digital vs Physical" war. Just wanted to share my decision to stop collecting Digital, and why I made that decision.

That's what social media is for bro, no one actually cares about your Movie relationship status here. You may get some of the usual physical media cheerleaders giving you high 5's, but really, what's the point of this thread?

I'm done with it as well! I started buying some digital ones that were not on bluray but do to rights and ownership and some quality it isn't worth it to me at all! I'm sticking with physical!

Forums like these are basically social media, just narrower in scope.

As for pointless threads, of which there are MANY, why post in one of them that you feel that way about? Your prerogative, of course, but doing so seems kinda, well, pointless.

I am as much of a "physical media cheerleader" as you will ever run into, but even I tell people to do what's best for them, whatever makes them happy.

I'll still do my cheers, but I recognize that we all have free will to make our own decisions.

I make my choices to please me and others should do the same: they should all make choices that please ME.

Just kidding, really; you only need to please yourself.

Ive also thought twice about digital whenever something goes wrong with my digital collection, like a title being removed (never happened yet to me), streaming issues (my internet being temperamental, rarely happens, but when it does its at the most inconvenient time). But I really enjoy having my whole collection at my fingertips, nicely displayed with cover arts, available on all my devices, etc AND it doesnt take any physical space, maybe when I have a dedicated place for watching my movies, I may look back into physical copies, but right now its just convenience

Please don't throw away those digital code slips. Either sell or give them away.

No! DESTROY THEM so nobody can ever redeem them!

That’s what I do. Selling them off or giving them away is creating a false statistical reading upon which studios will decide the fate of physical media. The larger the percentage of digital codes redeemed, the greater they believe that digital is ready to be the sole option for distribution.

I use a pen to completely obliterate the legibility of every code and scan option before shredding the sheet. HELP PROLONG THE LIFE OF PHYSICAL MEDIA!

that action doesnt change the direction of physical sales. the amount of physical sales is the only thing that can prolong the life of physical media.

Personally I eat the code slips to ensure there is no forensically possible method to recover the code.

I considered that option as well. Then I realized that all of those inks and laminate chemicals would probably lead to quick advancements in negative personal health issues. So, I decided that the previously mentioned method was a far more reasonable solution for the sake of my personal well-being.

Never value your personal well being over the future of physical media.

That's selfish.

But how will you see Black Mass 4k, Man From Uncle 4k, and the Intern 4k if you don't stay digital?
