Default Palmetto | Brian De Palma

Quote:
Alex Helisek of Breezeway Productions posted a brief interview with Brian De Palma on YouTube, conducted outside Saturday, with Susan Lehman waiting in the background, before heading in for De Palma's conversation with Alec Baldwin at the Hamptons International Film Festival. Asked what kinds of films he is looking to make in the future, De Palma mentions "a kind of horror film I'd like to make" (he is most likely referring to Predator), as well as a movie he calls Pimento, based on an otherwise unnamed classic noir:

BDP: "Well, I'm interested in new styles of telling stories. I do have a kind of horror film I'd like to make. And also diferent genres, and an adaptation of an old classic noir picture called Pimento." [Source]

EDIT: It's Palmetto. Big thanks to MooneyRara for fixing the thread title.

As always with De Palma, I'll believe he's making a new movie when it's actually released.

Yep, still waiting for Sweet Vengeance (which seems to have fallen through) and that Harvey Weinstein-inspired horror film.

There's no movie in existence called "Pimento."

I'm still trying to figure out wtf De Palma is talking about.

There's also the project of his that I was most interested in of everything that he's done in the past 25 years, that seems to have completely been abandoned, as well.

In 2014, it was announced that De Palma was going to make a film called, "Retribution", that would star Al Pacino (!) as an elderly former detective whose brilliance is called upon to help solve a serial killer case. The catch? The old detective suffers from Alzheimer's, and so he constantly forgets things. It sounded different and intriguing enough, and it would reunite Pacino with De Palma. I'd hoped it might be a nice late career picture for both of them. But it never happened, and I haven't heard it mentioned since early 2015 or so.

Yeah, I can't find anything called, "Pimento", either, LOL.

Funny enough, he likely mispronounced something or misspoke, LOL.

Maybe he means his movie is titled Pimento, and it's based off a film noir with a different title?

I had considered that that may be what he meant.

That's a pretty terrible title, LOL.

Maybe the word isn't even spelled "Pimento". We won't know for sure until there's an official announcement, I suppose.

His 80s film have great titles.

Someone should send him a title generator and load it up with 80s popular catch phrases/words.

I'd love to see him on form again but after the atrocious Domino, maybe it's time to retire

I agree that Domino is one of his worst films, but I wouldn't say it justifies wishing for his retirement since it was deeply compromised thanks to troubled production and post-production. I'd love to see him make at least one more film, this time with a trustworthy producer.

The book was published in 1961.

Just so long as De Palma's film has a variation of this scene, I'll be happy.

De Palma said: "old classic noir picture". The movie Palmetto is neither old nor a classic, so it's no wonder we were all at a loss.

When you're pushing eighty, 21 years ago probably seems like an eternity.
