Default People getting to obsessed with codecs?

I noticed in a couple recent Fox threads, there's been a lot of groaning about them using mpeg2 (which they're probably not) and I was wondering, are people getting to obsessed with video codecs? It seems like people aren't using their eyes anymore. They see Mpeg2 and automatcially think the movie will look like crap which isn't true at all. Just take a look at Gridiron Gang, Enemy of the State, Pearl Harbor... all of these use Mpeg2 and they look fantastic. They also seem to think that VC-1 is a horrid codec because of the WB had to port their titles over from HD DVD, even though VC-1 is not by any means a bad codec. But when it comes to AVC, apparently if you use that you can do no wrong. I'll probably get stoned for saying this, but people need to start using their eyes instead of just assuming that the codec determines the PQ. There's also the source to think about and a million other things as well. So I guess my point is to not get to obsessed with codecs.
