THE THING--James Arness space suit color?

I have a model of James Arness as The Thing, but his space suit is the wrong color--brown.
I once saw a photo of the actual Arness space suit at a Hollywood prop auction which said the space suit was black, but the photos of Arness on THE THING film set suggest it might be dark grey.
Before I repaint my figure, do any of you know for sure what the real color of the Arness space suit was----black or dark grey?

Thanks for the links. I've seen those red suit photos/posters before. They're typical 1950s Hollywood poster exaggeration.
As I posted earlier, I saw a photo of Arness's actual space suit at a Hollywood auction and the auction description said it was "black"---but in all the photos of Arness in the space suit, as I posted above, the space suit looks dark grey to me. I haven't able to find that auction photo again.
Unfortunately, the movie is in black and white, so it's hard to tell what the real color is.

This is the same Billiken kit as my The Thing, but it is painted correctly---either dark grey or black.
