Received the new Unearthed Films BD of Stefano Sollima's Suburra today.
It has a slip cover for those interested. BD is a BD-50 with 5.1 and 2.0 sound in DTS-HD Master, contrary to what the cover states (Dolby Digital). Bonus features are the full 2-hour making-of documentary, a production gallery, teaser and trailer. The menu is quite anemic with the definition of a DVD. Image quality of the feature is unfortunately disappointing. Despite this being a digital production, there is distracting macroblocking. The digital grain overlay doesn't always render properly. Bitrates are quite low, often hovering around 15-20 Mbps, likely due to the lengthy documentary. They should have better encoded two discs or hired a better encoder. I already have the Koch Media (now Plaion Pictures) German BD from 2015 and it looks fantastic with often double the bitrate and generally a much better definition of the images. It doesn't have English subtitles. All in all, a disappointing release for a great film that was long overdue in the US. I'll keep it for the subtitled documentary. |
