Haven't seen any of Lynne Ramsay's films, but have heard nothing but great things about this. Definitely will blind buy during the next B&N sale

Just to clarify, I haven't even seen this film, but I've seen her other three features:

Morvern Callar
We Need to Talk About Kevin
You Were Never Really Here

Based on those, it's impossible that this isn't equally as brilliant.

Such a beautiful film, but I REALLY hope Criterion fixes the subtitles on this. The current Criterion DVD subtitles are "Americanized", so the Scottish vernacular is "translated" to "American English". Hence, the spoken word "Aye" becomes "Yes", and "Wee lad" becomes "Little boy", etc. etc. etc.

We're not that stupid, Criterion- respect the vernacular in your subtitles!

Chris

Wow, I did not know that. I would much prefer the original Scottish English instead of the Americanized version language. But all I've seen is the Amercanized version and it still emotionally knocked me out. This movie is so good, Lynne Ramsay went on to bigger "more well known films" like "We Need to Talk About Kevin" (blah) and so forth, but her first film here will never be beat. Well, maybe someday? If not, she still made a great film with 'Ratcatcher', something none of us will ever do. What an excellent piece of film.

Unfortunately we never got her versions of The Lovely Bones, Jane Got a Gun or Moby Dick

To be clear, I'm talking about the subtitles, not the audio.
