I don't mind 4K SDR at all, but what's the benefit here? Being Toei there's not gonna be much of a ''compression'' benefit, since they compress the f*ck out of their UHDs (with the rare case of americans winning the race in that department, when in the BD era it was the opposite, Japan BDs were stuffed with high bitrates)

Yes, compression should still be better than BD, but the real advantage is that because it's an upscale, you'll be getting effective full resolution chroma. That alone is a major win, and one of the best advantages UHD upscales have over BD.

What are the chances this gets a USA release or at least Europe?

That's the thing though, and what I was arguing, Toei doesn't compress UHDs very well.

It's ironic that you're lecturing me about this.

Indeed, while their compression has been lacklustre, the general state of Japanese Blu-rays as a whole has gotten worse over time, relying even more on low pass filtering and extreme bitrate padding. The point being that even Toei's 1080p BDs, and many Japanese BDs now, are already quite poor, so the benefits of UHD would essentially make it a better release almost by default due to the quality control being so poor.

Heard this show was dumb filler, but I'll give it a chance when a US set hits for a normal price. Had to do a double take at that 52,000 yen set with the UHD, could literally buy the entire mediaOCD release slate with that.

Where does it come across as that, because it's far from my intention. I wasn't lecturing you about anything, I was only saying that I feel there's not gonna be any improvement on the basic that for upscales, the major difference (in my opinion) is HDR and better compression. And if Toei sucks at both of those this release isn't gonna be better than the Blu ray.. then again I am also NOT confirming anything, only discussing possibilities.

You're not wrong at all, Toei's BDs are even lower than the UHDs. Super Hero was around 20 mb/s.

Isn't Happinet, Toei's distributor?
