Default Animal Factory (2000)

Quote:
Description

Troubled youth Ron Decker (Edward Furlong, American History X) is sentenced to a ten-year stint in the notorious San Quentin State Prison for a drug-dealing conviction. Inexperienced in the ways of prison life, he’s taken under the wing of Earl Copen (Willem Dafoe, To Live and Die in LA), an experienced con with the entire prison in the palm of his hand – inmates and guards alike. But as Ron grows increasingly cocky in his privileged role as Earl’s confidant, is he in danger of biting off more than he can chew with some of the jail’s more volatile inhabitants?

Based on the semi-autobiographical novel of the same name by Eddie Bunker (Reservoir Dogs), Animal Factory was Steve Buscemi (Lonesome Jim, Interview)’s second stint in the director’s chair and sees him marshaling a formidable ensemble cast, including Bunker, Danny Trejo (Machete) and Mickey Rourke (The Wrestler), for a powerful and sincere account of the men caught up in the penal system and the deals they cut with each other, and themselves, in order to survive.

Weird, I just watched this for the first time last week, trying to knock back some of the DVDs I bought and never got around to watching. It's a solid movie, with great supporting performances by Mickey Rourke and Tom Arnold.

So Arrow either has access to the Franchise Pictures / Phoenician Pictures catalog or they have a deal with Sony?

This is a US release , correct?

This was previously released by Sony in the US. I'm guessing they don't have a deal with them, as it was issued by StudioCanal on DVD in the UK. Rights for both territories must have reverted to the producers I guess.

If Franchise Pictures, they might have acquired the US/UK rights through Park Circus:

Wow, so Franchise Pictures / Phoenician Pictures (Andrew Stevens!) , there is a couple of titles I would not mind getting from them, I wonder if the Franchise titles missing on BD from Warner Bros, are up for grabs, even though it could be confusing since some of the Franchise Pictures titles were distributed as part of deal with Morgan Creek and Warner Bros. And Morgan Creek is no longer with Warners!!! (It gives me a headache)

Looking at Park Circus' site, I think 3000 Miles to Graceland would be possible, that's one I'd like to see. Seems like the kind of film Arrow might release. The Whole Nine Yards is potentially another.

Cool, but Trees Lounge and Lonesome Jim are more of a priority to get blu ray upgrades for me. Especially the former.

I'm definitely surprised nobody did a "Lonesome Jim" release earlier this year, Casey Affleck's not gonna get much more high profile than winning the Oscar.

I'd love to own both. Been waiting forever for them to come out on blu-ray.

I wonder if this means an Arrow Battlefield Earth is possible. I hate the framing of the DE disc, opened up vertically and cropped on the sides, it's an awkward composition.

Arrow did do Microwave Massacre, so doing another infamous film wouldn't be too surprising.

And The Whole Nine Yards wouldn't be surprising either. It was a popular film in its day and it'd have the potential to sell well. Also, Arrow has shown they'll do mainstream comedies (The Apartment and A Fish Called Wanda, for example).
