Default Is it worth upgrading my TV to a bigger size?

I currently have a Samsung 32" 1080p TV and I've had it for over five years. A lot of people tell me that a bigger size TV is much nicer and worth the upgrade. So, I've been debating for a while on whether to upgrade to something bigger. I only have a studio apartment, so I have no space to keep my current TV if I were to upgrade. I would have to discard it since none of my friends want a TV that small and my parents are too old school and are perfectly happy with their tube TV.

Given my current living room layout, I would have to make some modifications if I were to upgrade to a bigger TV, such as a 42". First, I would have to move furniture around to allow for the extra space since I laid out my furniture in my living room without allowing space for a big TV. Second, I would have to buy a new TV furniture because my current TV furniture looks like THIS. Since new TVs today don't come with centered stands anymore and only have stands on the ends of the TV, I would have to buy a new TV furniture that would match the same width as a 42" TV.

So having said all of this, is it worth upgrading to a 42" TV? Since TVs are so cheap today, cost is not a problem for me. It's the items that I mentioned above that are hesitating me. Not to mention that I hate getting rid of a perfectly working 32" TV since no one wants it.

1. Bigger screen sizes are awesome.
2. There are TVs with centre stands. Mine has one; I bought it less than 3 mths ago.

You have all those audio equipment . . .

you sound like you don't want to upgrade, you've posted everything to say that, so, don't.

not even sure why you are asking?

most reviews I have read state you really don't start to see the full benefits of HD until you get about 37-40" TV screen size. Although this can also be impacted by your viewing distance as well as your vision. Probably best to go look at 1080p and 4K TV's at about the same distance you view your current TV at and determine if you like what you see or not. Keep in mind the store may not have a true 1080p or 4K feed in to the TV so be sure to ask about that. Some of the tv's still have center stands but those also look to be for tvs in the 49" size range.

My mom didn't see the purpose of spending money to go from tube tv to flat screen tv (cheap) but she was more than willing to take my flat screen TV when I upgraded.

Use this to calculate the best size for your viewing distance:

If I were you, I would wait until you're able to move into a bigger apartment or a house, before buying a new TV, since the accommodations at your current residence is small, and won't have the extra space to expand as needed. It wouldn't make sense for you to go out and buy a bigger TV and a stand, if you don't have the room for it.

Take a measuring tape and measure the actual dimension of your current TV diagonally from the outside corners to get the physical size of the TV. Compare that to modern TV's and you will probably be able to get a 42"-46" that takes up nearly the same amount of space due to the reduced bezel size.

Interesting. Almost all the 4K TVs on the market now don't use center stands.

The only one on that link that has a center stand is the Sony one. Nice TV, but a lot more expensive than the Samsungs, which offer just as good of a quality.

It is absolutely worth upgrading. Get one of these

.
Your wall should be big enough and you don't have to buy any new furniture. In fact, just get rid of what you have to make room for your new TV. Enjoy !!

They don't have center stands anymore because most people want the option to add a SOUNDBAR because tv's speakers are so bad.

There's definitely room for a 42" or so size TV in my apartment. It's just that when I moved in, I didn't really take into consideration that I would buy a bigger TV. I was always content with 32". So when I laid out my furniture, I only left enough space for a 32" TV. It wasn't until recently I ever thought about getting a bigger size as many people have told me how great it is. So, I suddenly am feeling the urge to go bigger, especially now that 4K TVs are popular and very inexpensive now.

If I move some of the furniture on that side of the living room and move it to another side, there will be plenty of space.

And I don't plan on getting a bigger place because I live alone and don't forsee that changing any time soon. A studio apartment is sufficient for me and for many years to come.

By the way, if I were to buy a 42" TV at the store, is it too much to carry? I literally live just 10 minutes walking distance from a Best Buy and PC Richards. Are they carry-able or is it a must that I have it delivered? I don't own a car.

For me having to move furniture around, updating my TV stand, etc is always worth it to me if it means a bigger better screen. If you can accommodate a larger TV do what you need to do to get it. I assume since you're on this forum you enjoy movies a heck of lot more than the average person.

You could get a TV stand like this that is a minimal footprint, but can mount a wide range of sizes. There are wide variety of mounting options these days.
https://www.amazon.com/Fitueyes-Univ.../dp/B018I1XTFU

Newer TVs are much lighter and thinner with minimal bezel than even just 5 years ago. The only limiting factor I think is the size as opposed to the weight. I moved my 60" around no problem. Though you may want to ask a friend to assist if you can't get your arms around the box. Still, you could rig up some makeshift straps pretty easily I think. Maybe the people at the store may even be able to help you rig something up with some rope or something.

Thanks, guys. I may just go ahead and bite the bullet. I can always store my old TV under my bed until I find out what to do with it.

I was thinking of buying this Sony TV since it's a very nice TV, it has good reviews, it's a Smart TV, has HDR, has 4 HDMI ports, and as a bonus, has a centered stand...

https://www.bestbuy.com/site/sony-43...?skuId=5748210

It's a bit pricey though especially since Samsung TVs of that size and same features are much cheaper. But then again, it might be worth the investment as I heard Sony TVs are great!

You can, but for your protection, I wouldn't take a chance on carrying a brand new 42" TV down the street in plain sight because, you don't know what people have in their mind to do, when they see a opportunity like that... What you can do is, order the TV online, and have it delivered to your home, and it's free delivery.

That's even worse since I work five days a week. I would need to be home for the delivery.

Well you can take a chance on carrying it home, but take somebody with you just in case. Don't go by yourself. Also, it would be a big help if a family member or a friend who have a vehicle can take you to pick it up because, you may need some help to set it up, and put the stand on anyway.

That probably is a better option than delivery as I don't know when it would arrive and in what condition it would arrive in. Or I'll see if Uber can do it (for a tip, of course). As for the set up, I definitely don't need help with that.

The bigger the screen, the better. But make sure it'll be comfortable to look at, at the distance you'll be sitting from it. You don't want to hurt your eyes, or be uncomfortable watching TV.

When a screen is bigger, you can read everything easier. The text is bigger. The actors are bigger. You see everything better.

Text is often little enough, on our 55 inch TV's. So a smaller TV would have even smaller text.

The distance between my couch and TV is about 80 inches. Seems like 42" is good for that distance based on my research.
