I've noticed that Fox has a tendency to have higher sticker prices on their Blu's. Almost all their titles are $34.99 while titles from every other studios don't go over $29.99.
Not only that but Fox also seems to skimp on the extras. Predator for $35 with not a single extra feature?! ![]() ![]() Predator is just one example. I find this with every release from Fox. ![]() |

Actually it's still $35 at my local Best Buy
![]() I know, ridiculous, but that's the case. It has been marked down to $20 at Target but that still doesn't speak for EVERY OTHER Fox release. Like I said, it's an example and by far not the only case of severe MSRPs with no content. |

I would say everybody, although I did pick up The Devil Wears Prada for $14.99 today. It wouldn't be quite so bad if Fox/MGM releases were loaded down with special features. Unfortunatly there not most of the time I can hear and see the tumble weeds rolling in the place they should put features.
Fox/MGM puts DTS MA on all there release but that does not justify the $ 35 price tag on most of them. I can see $5 more but $10 more come on. Last edited by Canada; 12-31-2008 at 05:24 AM. |

Well right now a number of retailers have reduced the prices, namely for "boxing week" sales, knocked down to between $15 and $20 Canadian, from the usual $35. But yeah, a number of them have little to no bonus content on them, like I was looking at double dipping on Night at the Museum earlier today, my 2 disc DVD is probably one of the best for a "non- catalog" title in my collection- featuring a good looking and sounding transfer, commentaries by the right people, a number of good behind the scenes documentaries, deleated scenes, and even a nice lenticular slipsleeve cover- meanwhile, the blu-ray has nothing, except the commentaries (I think). Same problem with Cast Away and Independence Day (those two where I only have the BD). And another problem I've had with a couple of titles, namely Independence Day and Young Frankenstein is when I buy them as they are released, I pay a sticker price of $30- plus, then a week or so later, down to $20, but by the time I go in to get a price adjuctment, price is back up! I know this is probably a common, but Fox does it a lot more often then the others.

Akira from Bandai has a retail price of $49.98 US and you are paying for mostly packaging.
I kid you not. The only "extras" for this are trailers and storyboards and if you want to justify your $40 purchase: YOU GOT TO GET THE FIRST COPIES. The first releases will have a 32page booklet and a slipcover. After the initial pressings are done with, its still $40 with trailers and storyboards. Best Buy's price on Akira is $44.98 with no guarantee of getting the first pressing. Amazon's price is $35 and again, no guarantee of the first shipment. Even Paramount and Criterion have $40 retail titles too. The Last Emperor and Beowulf are $35 at Best Buy. Fox did lower the retail on a number of titles and Predator is one of them. Heck Predator is priced at $14.99 at both my Targets. You can also order it at Wal-Mart.com for $17.86 and do Site to Store pick up or at Amazon for $17.99. |

Fox is insane with the way they price their movies and also virtually barebones on the discs. No extras, commentaries, deleted scenes, and when they include something its just lame trailer or something minimal. Predator, Commando, and whole bunch of others got neglected, only new releases from movies recently taken down from the theater get special attention!!! Patethic!!

Ok, I see many people referring back to Predator. I wasn't talking of just Predator. I was referring to all Fox releases; Predator was an example. So just ignore the fact that Predator was even mentioned. If you want other examples: Independence Day, i, Robot, Kingdom of Heaven, Commando, The Day After Tomorrow, Die Hard, and many many more. And those were all titles with some damn decent features on DVD.
The thing that bothers me is the higher price point. If you pick up a title that has $34.99 marked on it, more than 90% of the time it'll be from Fox. And to make it worse, they don't bother even transferring over the SD features from the DVDs. They give you the movie and usually a trailer or two. I refuse to pay that much for any movie, let alone a movie without any supplements. |

Independence Day - Almost the same as the single disc DVD except no extended cut of the film.
Die Hard - Almost the same as the two disc DVD except no cutting room feature. I Robot - Almost the same as the two disc DVD except the documentaries are abriged to fit a BD-50. So far, the only valid titles for your argument are Kingdom of Heaven which is selling for around $20 and Commando which sells anywhere from $15 to $18. Why don't you just look at some other big titles: The Duchess, GHost Town, and Eagle Eye retail for $40 too. Best prices are $28. The Bourne Trilogy retails for $120. Best price? $95. That's THREE movies. Individual price for each: $32 with discount. Other $40 retail titles are Pineapple Express, Bangkok Dangerous, High School Musical 3, Zodiac. Want some older titles? High School Musical and Pinocchio retail for $35! Nightmare Before Christmas can finally be had for $20 after being $32 at nearly every store I've visited. And one title that took me awhile to get after I enjoyed it: P.S. I Love You retails for $35! The best price I could get...$22 at Wal-Mart |

Prices on some are absurd at the moment. I got enough new ones for Christmas and birthday that I'm waiting for price drops before buying more or I'm gonna use all the gift cards I got for the awesome Jan. and Feb. releases such as King Kong and Bourne trilogy. Prices also drop a week or two later on new releases.
