I don't love this movie, but I'm a big Branagh fan so I'm happy this is getting a good release.

This was unexpected. Glad to see this is getting a new restoration with some extras.

I'm hoping that someone also eventually re-releases Branagh's version of Hamlet. The Warner disc uses the shitty VC-1 codec and could really use a new scan.

I'm kind of surprised that Branagh is missing from the disc completely. I guess he was too busy, but he seems like someone who would be very interested in a new release of one of his films. Still, he was blamed for this one being a critical failure, so it could be that he just doesn't want to revisit it.

Not a great film, but I've always had a fondness for it for being the first version I ever saw and the special features package looks excellent so I will definitely pick this up.

Not sure how I feel about Francis Ford Coppola's Kenneth Branagh's Mary Shelley's Frankenstein. Would need to see it again.

I haven't actually seen Branagh participate in extras for his older movies since the Blu-ray era began, though that likely also has to do with the lack of interest in creating new extras for the format. But as you mention, he gets a lot of blame for it, often for this being something of a vanity project. There's also some personal history as well to do with his relationship with Helena Bonham Carter and divorce from Emma Thompson.

There was an amusing bit of a reunion between Branagh and DeNiro of Graham Norton a few years back. They discuss the film around the 6 minute mark.

It's worth remembering, though, that in the Blu-ray era, his pre Blu-ray era films haven't had new special editions or even really been remastered before (I wouldn't count his Disney / Marvel films being upgraded to 4K).

He does have commentaries for Thor, Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit and Murder on the Orient Express and appears in the extras for Cinderella and All is True, the last of which is his most recent film to see a home video release at the moment, so he is still doing extras.

I don't know, I just always imagined Branagh as someone who would be very enthused about home video versions of his films. I'm surprised he didn't at least do a commentary or supervise or approve the new master, but like we said, maybe this isn't a film he wants to revisit.

With the Kino Lorber Insider previously mentioning the possibility of an UHD title in their Sony deal, it seemed like Sony were now starting to open up for UHD licensing in the US/UK.

What this needs is a Frank Darabont commentary.

This is the same piece of trash who was on Twitter when the forum was down a week or two. Saying he hoped it never came back , I would probably not drive traffic to his site.

Not a great film, but it's so over the top and visually energized, it'll make for a great UHD disc.

Becuz no-one's yet snagged a US/UK UHD license from Sony AFAIK, despite them licensing out HD stuff for years and years. As Dailyan said above even the Kino one wasn't a dead cert, there's still nothing confirmed or even if they're doing it at all (which would possibly indicate some sort of awkwardness there on trying to get these from Sony?).

I don't care for this particular film so won't be buying, but the possibilities it opens up for Sony UHDs to be licensed are mouth-watering.

I think Easy Rider was released worldwide and not in US - because Criterion snagged 4K licence. Dont you think?
