United Kingdom The Shadow Line (BBC 2011)

Still being shown on BBC and shaping up to be one of the best TV series of the year http://www.amazon.co.uk/The-Shadow-L.../dp/B004URO3XE Hugo Blick is certainly a writer of real talent with this, Roger And Val Have Just Got In, Sensitive Skin, Marion And Geoff, Last Words and Up In Town

Anyone know how the BBC handle their blu-rays? Anyone own any? Just wondering if they offer lossless audio or not.

Really want to to buy this series but not if it's not full HD (audio and video).

I have five BBC titles, but I think with them it depends which production company handles their releases, so it can be "hit or miss" in the audio/video adepartment, which doesn't necessarily mean bad. The specs on the back cover can sometimes be vague or incorrect (e.g. Pride & Prejudice states just DTS HD, but the sound is DTS HD HR, Planet Earth (first release) states 1080i for video on the back cover, but it's actually 1080p, etc). On the whole I have been really satisfied with the releases of the BBC titles I own (albeit none of them are brand new titles), but of course it all depends on one's expectations, so the best thing would be to check each individual BBC title to be sure as there doesn't seem to be a set standard for their releases.

The video will be 'full' HD but it might be 1080i50. Lots of people see 1080i and wince but plenty of the BBCs 1080i releases look fantastic (Human Planet for example, and Sherlock got good reviews here) so I wouldn't worry about it. A new HD show like this, I'm sure it'll look great.

As for the sound, I'm not sure sure. Wouldn't be surprised if it DD 5.1 to be honest (like Sherlock, for example)

Picture is 1080i, sound is 2.0, only extras are deleted scenes but at least its on two BD50's. A couple of months should see this down to £10. A pity more effort wasn't put in but the series was so good its still worth buying. Hugo Blick has said he's thinking about a sequel

Is the audio lossless? I don't mind it being 2.0, but if it's dulby digital I'll give it a miss.
