Wong Kar-wai's film catalog being remastered in 4K in 2020 - Blu-ray Forum

So, all of Wong Kar-wai's are being remastered in 4K for 2020. Whether that means an actually 4K release, time will tell. Maybe these will be Criterions first UHD BDs?

I'm not getting my hopes up, but I would really like for this to happen. Chungking Express in 4K would be a day one buy for me.

Always liked 'As Tears Go By'. among others of course. But I always think of that movie when someone mentions Wong Kar Wai.

Yeah As Tears Go By is my second favourite of his films. That one might also be a day one buy. What worries me most is how much these are gonna cost. Being Criterion titles these will be expensive as hell even on BD, let alone if they do happen to release them on UHD. I could never afford all of these.

Officially confirmed for 2020 by Janus. Would make an excellent UHD set.

Depending on when they are going to do the theatrical tour, the earliest any discs would be released would be late 2020 or early 2021. Maybe UHD costs will have gone down enough and/or sales have gone up enough by then that Criterion will be able/willing to release these on UHD.

I can't get a hold of Chungking Express and I'm not paying OOP prices for the Criterion release. I would very much love to have a new remaster of this in 2020! I was late to the party but boy do I love that movie.

Criterion's been talking about an in-the-works remaster for some time now, so I wouldn't be surprised if it's the first out of the gate from this 4K "restoration" project.
