Hi Guys,
A quick question for the UK guys, does anyone know if some of the classic tv series will come out on blu-ray, my favourite being The Young Ones... oh and Bottom.
Thanks for any replies.

The BBC has shot virtually all of its shows on standard def video for the last 25+ years

That would likely be a no

Sitcome I believe have been shot exclisively on SD up until recently. Some are now in HD and are shown on BBC HD. The same will be true for most content.

Natural history (such as "Life on Earth", "Flight of the Condor" etc...) have a good chance of being captured on film. Especially '70s and early '80s before such as BetaCAM camcorders started being used generally by broadcasters.

The series captured on film may though have been captured that way, but there is no guarantee it was edited on film... more likely they were transferred to video and edited on video.

Major US shows of the '80s such as "ST the next Generation" and latterly "Dallas" were shot on film but edited on video. This seems to have been fairly common across the industry.

Of course tha masters being on film (if extant) would allow for HD transfers, but this would necessitate re-editing and would probably be prohibitively expensive, at least until HDM became mainstream.

I doubt the Beeb will re-release old SD programmes on blu-ray. If they did I'd like to see some classic Dr Who episodes remastered! But I think it is unlikely.

I reckon the only HD stuff we'll see from the BBC is newly shot programmes. Though Torchwood is an odd exception, it is shot in HD but so far only has a box set on DVD. Yet the likes of Robin Hood, etc get the full HD treatment?? Oh well.

I held off buying Torchwood on DVD as I knew it was likely to be released in a HD format at some point. When the complete season 1 box set was announced I honestly expected a Blu-ray and HD-DVD version to be released too.

Are you listening 2|Entertain? I've got money here, let me buy Torchwood on Blu-ray please

I would just like to see them pull Planet Earth on HD DVD. This would continue to shut up quite a few red boys.
