Kinda unrealistic that Wahlberg would be bigger than the oil rig.

Just saw this at my local discount cinema, and all I can say is that in terms of the audio presentation, this will be an unrelentingly-immersive sonic tour-de-force on BD, especially for those with suitably-equipped audio playback systems -- can't wait til January

Excellent movie. Saw it in IMAX. Will pick it up for the Audio alone. I tend to sit in the middle of the theater and the audio activity was distinct and constant throughout every speaker in the theater. It was one of the rare occasions where the audio was more immersive than the video. I knew there and then that the 4k disc was a must buy for the audio alone.

The movie was also fantastic. Especially since it's based on true events. Well made, scripted, directed and acted.

Has this one taken a little longer to get to BR than most releases? Seems like it was quite awhile ago when I saw it in theaters.

Was released September 30th so less than 3 months from the cinema to home video.

Quote " Deepwater Horizon is undeniably exciting, but it's also a weird mashup of disaster film and what might be termed a "popcorn flick", something that might be more acceptable if the story weren't based on real life. It seems a little churlish (and frankly maybe a lot churlish) to be deriving a dose of adrenaline off of the sad series of man made mistakes that resulted in such carnage. "

Maybe, but The China Syndrome and Three Mile Island happened and came out the same year. And thats a very good movie. One does get a bit of a rush from that movie, even though the movie is not based on such a thing, it still was similar. (had to look that up though movie was released March 16 1979, 12 days later 3 Mile Island happens. One wonders did the egg or the chicken come first) :O I wasn't yet 4 at the time. Brother wasn't born quite yet. he was still cooking. take another a little under 4 months for that :P)

Hollywood does this though and naturally mark would show up for another on the Boston Bombing. One movie now and then can be forgiven but he's looking rather off making 2 movies about major news items in a year. I do find Deepwater Horizon in better taste than the one based on the Boston Bombing. But when Hollywood is bored this happens. Better than remakes right

Fans of this movie will want to purchase it instead of renting it. A family member that I know rented this movie on Blu-ray from Netflix. The rental version is on a dual layer Blu-ray disc with 32.2GB used out of 50GB. Also the rental version contains only the trailers for bonus features, compared to the retail Blu-ray version with bonus items. The worse thing about the rental version is that Lionsgate removed the 11.1 Dolby ATMOS soundtrack and with no 7.1 Dolby TrueHD lossless core soundtrack. Instead consumers get a lossy 5.1 Dolby Digital soundtrack (640kbps).

Blind buy and liked it a lot I'll watch it again for sure. Glad I watched it before starting to study the actual event. "Based on true story" is stretched here. No idea why Hollywood has to take a true, interesting story and go so off script. Watch for the entertainment, not the history lesson!

It's a movie obviously, not a History channel special (and even those are questionable these days), but they did a pretty good job getting most things right. Even the actual people from the rig said they nailed it. The one consistent complaint is the film's focus on Vidrine as the "villain", but audiences tend to want a bad guy, so I can see why they did it.

I had read about some related to the people involved disappointed the script was so off, that they got a group together to tell it more accurately. I would have also liked to see the aftermath.....heroes saved lives that night for sure. Other heroes worked over the next few months to fix the environmental disaster. Only comparison I can think of off the top of my head would be Zero Dark Thirty ending when they find where OBL is hiding. I wanted the final included, the capping of the well. Just my two cents. Solid film, glad to own it

Hey thanks for that History vs Hollywood link. I've never seen that page. That's going to eat up hours!

Crazy about the kids fishing under it just before.....
