USA The Congress (Robin Wright) - December 2nd, 2014

I'd completely ignored this movie based on its title, but I just read the synopsis for it from Pro-B's thread for the UK release, and it sounds great, and quite unique. Drafthouse Films will be releasing it in the US on December 2nd.

Quote:
Synopsis: Based on the novel by Stanislaw Lem (Solaris). Robin Wright stars as herself in this drama directed by Ari Folman. When mature actress Robin Wright realises that no studio will offer her work anymore due to her age and her unpredictability, she agrees to sell the rights to her digital body to be replicated in computer-animated films. 20 years later, while attending the Futurological Congress Conference, she discovers that the studio who recorded her digital image now have the technology to morph a human into their own personal avatar. Agreeing to undergo the process to be turned into an avatar of herself, Robin soon starts experiencing hallucinations as her conscience battles the transformation.

Yeah, I saw the trailer a while back (Robin Wright's name caught my attention). It looks very interesting, so I'll get it.

It's excellent. Conceptually stunning, the animation segments are gorgeous and the performances are great. This has been an amazing year for sci-fi between Under the Skin, Snowpiercer and this.

The Stanislaw Lem novel it's based on is really great. I hear the film is very different, but the trailer looks quite impressive. Can't wait to see it.

For those of you with Region B or region free players, the French release is out already since April: https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Le-Co.../82949/#Review

I thought the first 1/3rd was very(!) good. Once it crossed over into animation it became a total mess. Hated it after that point.

I've heard this movie is difficult to watch. I think I'll wait for Netflix, which will probably be quick.

Best Buy has this pre-order for $14.99, though. Which isn't bad.

... for those who are interested, along with the 16 page booklet this release also has a reversible cover insert. I can't find any direct scans of the alternative cover on the net, but it uses this artwork:

[Show spoiler]

... except the only text present is "Robin Wright at The Congress", and the top part of the picture is shortened accordingly.

I always like it when Blu-rays have reversible covers with alternative artwork!
Dang, I like that cover a lot more. Might try to pick this up the next time I visit a Drafthouse

it's super cheap ($11.99) on Amazon right now, it'll be full price at a Drafthouse location. FYI

I think Trio op 100 was distastefully used in this movie. I'm appalled the director allowed the song to be used during a cartoon.

Bought this as a blind buy at FYE. Looks interesting, and I like Robin Wright.

Grabbed it at a past Dollar Tree sale and it was a rare keeper.

I loved how it all blended with live action and animation and the score was awesome as well. One I shall have to watch again some day soon for sure.

You found it at Dollar Tree? That’s a steal.
