Default The Secrets of Isis

So, I was feeling a tad nostalgic cause I used to watch this show a long time ago and decided to rent this series from Netflix. Three episodes in and the cheese factor definitely set in. By the time I got done watching Disk 1, my wife and I were totally cracking up at the show. Some observations:

1. The biggest thing you notice is that EVERYBODY knew who Isis was. She must have had one HELL of a press agent.
2. She was supposed to be able to run like a gazelle. Didn't see her run alot.
3. Whenever she flew, she was up way high in the clouds. Even if she only had to fly a short distance. Plus, when she did fly, she was at like a 45 degree angle.
4. It seemed like she never changed her clothes. They must have filmed a bunch of episodes all in one day. I guess the wardrobe budget was shot due to the great FX and her Isis costume.
5. She's a high school chemistry teacher, but in the opening credits, she is uncovering the box that holds the amulet. I don't know too many chemistry teachers that go on archaeological digs. What's funnier is that the series description says she's an Archaeologist.
6. As for her teaching school. It appeared that her and the other teacher, Rick Mason never did a whole lot of teaching. Seemed like they were always getting in to some trouble or another.
7. The plots were always paper thin.

Still. it's worth a watch if you've never seen it, and there's some cameos in it from stars of the day.

Plus, if there are any fans of the show out there, you'll be happy to know that the big screen adaption hits theatres next year. Oh Mighty Isis!!!....

Now that Warner Archive has released Shazam on Blu-ray, I wonder if Secrets of Isis will get a similar treatment. After all, each hero guest-starred on the other's show three times, so Isis has already appeared in the Shazam set.

I have heard that this series suffers from disc rot. Has anyone checked their copy lately to confirm or disprove the disc rot theory?

Sadly, it has been reported that the original film elements for Isis are believed to no longer exist (current owner: Universal). When Hallmark owned the Filmation library they made digital PAL masters for European distribution then tossed out the elements.

Shazam! avoided this fate as the elements had reverted to DC/Warner Bros. The Isis DVD was converted from the digital PAL tapes. Consequently, a blu-ray is unlikely unless WB has some additional shared film elements or some secret vault opens up somewhere.

Of course, that also happened to the 1983 He-Man and the Masters of the Universe. The classic H-MatMotU now also currently owned by Uni.
