There are two versions of this movie included in the recent Blu-ray release. Does anyone happen to know the differences between the two included versions? Even the Mondo Macabro product page (linked above) has no mention of this.

Thanks.

I rechecked the disc - I’m only seeing one version of the movie. Where are you seeing a 2nd version?

He probably interpreted english and italian language options as "english and italian versions of the movie" and added in the part about them being different in his head?

He's right. There are two versions. There are two different M2TS for the Italian and English versions, with the same audio tracks, but the video for the Italian is, sadly, lower bitrate. And it's noticeable in dark scenes, even if slightly.

The only thing that changes are the titles/credits in the beginning and in the end. It should had been done with seamless branching and thus having the whole feature with the highest possible bitrate. Only three branchings would had been needed, a few secs at the very beginning, the title sequence 6 mins in, and the credits at the end. Frankly, the only label that seems to get this right is Arrow.

Well, changes:

1. The text at the start. Black background in the English, coloured rotating faces background in the Italian.

2. More text with the title and intro credits (6 min in), aside the language difference, the Italian is slightly cropped. The English text seems more "natural", as it's part of the film. The Italian looks too clean. I know some of these text sequences in old films are sometimes recreated digitally, this might be the case. Then the "13 years later" text on the image (with the car driving), this sequence continues being cropped. The next scene with the dog goes back to normal and both versions are now identical till the end. The "13 years later" text in the Eng version is off-centre.

3. End credits. Now both versions look too "clean", there's no cropping. The English version omits the "special thanks" of the credits, so there's a long sequence of the coloured paints, where the thanks would had been, with nothing but the music.

That's it. Imo, while I prefer Italian versions usually, here the English has the edge, if only for the higher bitrate. The more "natural" intro text and not being (slightly) cropped help its case. The Italian on the other hand has the coloured background intro text and the special thanks credits intact. Nitpicking ofc, but that's why we are here

To MM, nice of you to include both versions. But PLEASE, do branching in these cases, where the difference is just a couple of minutes and needs no more than 3-4 branches. Arrow does this. We could had had the movie in full 40 Mbps glory, or fit it in a BD25.

Btw, the PQ is great. Nice grain, detail, colours, blacks, whites (these days as long as they don't go for the cyan/yellow/green filter I'm happy), I don't remember damage, looks as good as you can ask for a film like this.

Just wanted to point out that the Italian track changes the story and twist in a certain way:
[Show spoiler]In the Italian track, Colin is Lucille’s nephew, NOT her son, making him cousin with Esther. In the end, Lucille even tells him that he’s like a son to her.
While I prefer the acting in the Italian track, the English track is crazier and sleazier.

In the folds of the flesh is where I found some loose change. As to the movie, I just ordered it from Amazon with a 25% discount.
