Floorboards have been pulled up. Cables are being run. Atmos speakers are going into the celing. The wife is almost having a stroke from the upheaval.

It must be upgrade time!

Carpets and wallpaper are all being replaced, with the paintwork also getting a face-lift. No better reason to have the cabling go under the floor rather than have it visible along skirting boards or all the trouble of burying it in walls. Just glad that there's plenty of room to avoid putting wires near copper pipes.

When putting wires under the floor, I have learned from bitter experience to label each cable as they come up through the boards so as to avoid irritation just when you think everything's finished.

When pulling up the boards, I found reading material from a previous occupant - two issues of British porn mag Razzle. Both dating back to 1986, they're in surprisingly good condition, and were there 20 years before the wide and I moved in, so I have my alibi!
