Default Some DVDs have glue like stuff on them and they don't work

I was watching Superman III for the first time today and the movie froze half way through it. I tried again and it got stuck at the same spot and now my Blu-Ray player won't even read the disc anymore. I checked the disc and it has some glue like sticky stuff near the edges and around the middle hole. I have The Christopher Reeve Superman Collection and Superman IV disc also has the same problem. I bought it long time ago used but I haven't watched it until now. Have others had discs like these? I also have Superman Returns dvd that has the same problem. It gets stuck when watching the making-of documentary.

What's the packaging? If it's a digibook/digipak without a cardboard slot, discs will get lodged too far into it and when you finally get them out, they'll be scratched or have glue on it. Happens with BDs too.

Try cleaning the affected dvds with rubbing alcohol and a soft micro fiber cloth, cotton swab, or other non abrasive material. Use circular motions from inner ring to outer edge like following a radial line. Rubbing alcohol is commonly used to remove glue from dvds and cds both. A Google search will confirm this.

If the discs still fail to play properly, try contacting Warner Bros., explain the issue, and request replacements. While they are not obligated to do so, Warner Bros. often will send a free replacement if the disc is still in production, at least they have for me here in the U.S.

I email Sherri Bogard in the U.S.; you might need a different contact for Finland:

sherri.bogard@warnerbros.com

Good luck!

Thanks! I might try that cleaning method at some point. I bought it used so I don't think I can get replacement discs. I might buy the movies Blu-ray soon.

I've noticed this before. Every now and then, I get a disc that feels sticky around the edges. I've never had one not play because of this, and it has nothing to do with packaging. I think it's the glue used between the layers.

It shouldn't matter if you bought used. They made shoddy discs. But just don't tell them that. If they ask for a receipt or something, tell them you bought it months ago and misplaced it.
