Sony Pictures The White Ribbon (2009)

The White Ribbon Blu-ray

Original messsage:
What's with the high price point on this movie???? I had the opportunity to see this movie while it was in theaters and the movie was amazing..... That being said, $35 is a bit much for any release.... Does anyone think it'll drop before release day (which is in another week).

It'll drop prob to $28. Foreign films are almost always very expensive. Just look at So Long I Loved You and The Lives of Others.

$28 was what i was expecting it to be since thats usually the most expensive any new release is (well, any new release that isn't a criterion title).... Even B&N have it at a lower price ($32) and they're usually grossly overpriced....

Just curious, has anyone seen it? Is it worth a blind buy?? I'm thinking of using my Sony Rewards points and getting it that way.

Yes, it's worth it. I loved this Blu-ray release and if you are a Michael Haneke fan, good amount of special features.

It may not be for everyone.. But it does go into how people (especially children) who follow idealism blindly can lead to terrorism.

I will say that for those used to his violent films, this film is nothing like his previous violent more works but I thought this film was well-done.

I'll leave it at that...I'm sure the Blu-ray.com reviewer will have his review up on the site soon.

He didn't need to be. A cursory glance at the entry on this site and the correlation with Amazon and the BD's current price made it pretty obvious.

But enough of all that...back to the thread eh?

This film is being released by two companies:
Artificial Eye - Region 'B' Blu-ray, Sony - Region 'A' Blu-ray
Both versions are said to be spectacular.

It will drop to $15 or less before the holiday season hits. $35 is a crime.

I purchased The Black Book and The Lives of Others for $15.95 each. These are both great foreign films from Sony too, but I am not sure if they are Sony Pictures Classics. I just checked and they are currently kind of pricey at the moment.

I agree, buy it if you want it. Personally I want it but I will wait for the price to drop to at least under $20. The $20 price tag seems to be my sweet spot at the moment.

I would say it's worth a blind buy. You just have to keep in mind that it's a very slow and deliberate movie. It's definitely more about the characters and their relationship with each other than it is about the "mystery". If that's your thing, I'd say go for it

Oh great.....! Now it's actually getting more expensive as it gets closer to the release date this is not cool. Do they really think people are going to pay almost $40 for this movie???

No matter the price I'm doing to get this one. This is a must own.

Plus, the Beaver said it may be the most impressive blu-ray they've seen.

Bestbuy will be selling it at $29.99.
Loved the movie and I'll suck-it-up and pay it.

Who knows, maybe it'll be cheaper on release day.

SPC titles usually start as pre-orders at $22-$27 (like The White Ribbon, which went up on Amazon with a $26.99 price), this is why it pays to pre-order at Amazon, as you lock-in the lowest price between the time you pre-order and release day.
