Nosferatu (1922)

A Dracula of the silent film era with only the names changed. Max Schreck was outstanding as Orlok and the film had an atmosphere of creepiness and dread. Schreck's makeup was very effective for its time or any time for that matter. One wouldn't mistaken him as a romantic figure. The copy I saw was not the best. I would love to see a better print of this film.

First Viewing - Certainly interesting and artistic. The other four Lars von Trier films I've seen, Breaking the Waves, Antichrist, Melancholia, and Nymphomaniac, I liked better. I'll revisit this if I come across the uncensored director's cut. The 'R rated' version is currently airing/streaming on Showtime.

Film Stars Don't Die in Liverpool (2017)

Based on a true story about the relationship between a young English actor, Peter Turner played by Jamie Bell and a American actress Gloria Grahame played by Annette Bening. I'd never heard of this movie before and what a shame because Bening gives a masterful performance which should have had an Oscar nomination. Jamie Bell also acquites himself quite well. The supporting cast were also great. Nice to see Julie Walters and Jamie Bell reunited in a movie. The movie is based on a book written by Peter Turner who also lent a hand with the screenplay. This is quite a bittersweet movie about life, relationships and illness, one that will be watched again and added to my collection.
