Default Why do "region free" ie Region A/B/C Blu-ray discs not work in console and players?

I own a Sony 4K player, a PlayStation 3, an Xbox One, and an Xbox Series X, and the region A/B/C discs that I purchased from Zavvi (steelbooks) all pop up the error message that they won't play due to the region code settings of the player. Is there some setting I'm supposed to change to in all of these players, or is it just that the region A/B/C setting doesn't work?

What discs are they? Region-free discs are region-free discs, period. There is no lockout on region-free discs. If your players all say wrong region the discs are not all region.

Pinocchio steelbook, which is marked as Region A/B/C, is the one I just tried before I posted. But it happened with a few of the Zavvi Region A/B/C steelbooks.

This one? This site shows Region B locked.

However, the 2015 commenter ALSO noted that it shows Region ABC on the back. You may have a refund in order since the product doesn’t play as described.

Yeah that's the one. I figured that might have been the problem, but I've seen it a number of times with their Steelbooks so this might be a prevalent problem. Oh well. It kinda sucks because I don't actually own the U.S. release of the Blu-ray, either, so it's a matter of whether I want to slap down money on it with my son asking me to watch it.

Thanks for the info! I thought I was going nuts for a moment there.

A few of the earlier UK Classics are locked from region A playback, likewise the US releases' prohibit playback on BC players.
