Default The Three Stooges on DVD

I thought I'd post this new thread for anyone who has memories of watching the Stooges on DVD. I'm sure many people out there can chime in and give them their two cents.

I remember the first Stooges DVD I got was one of the colorized one’s Sony released back in 2004. I watched those same 4 shorts over and over again. Later down the road, I was made aware of the fact there was an ultimate collection box set. That was an instant (and satisfying) purchase for me. I still watch those DVD’s to this day. I would love to see a collection like that get released on Blu Ray considering some HD stations air them.

They didn't start remastering some of the shorts until 2004 when they began colorizing them. The older DVDs released from 1998-2004 were from the same video masters that date back all the way to the 1980s. I did enjoy the remastered sets that started coming out in 2007, with the last one coming out in 2010.

"Curly" Joe DeRita didn't make any shorts with Moe and Larry. He joined the team in 1959 for a handful of feature films (one was actually produced for 20th Century Fox) since Columbia's shorts department closed in 1957. The features are a mixed bag, but have their moments. DeRita actually made 4 two-reelers for Columbia from 1946-48, all of which can be found on DVD. In 1965, the Stooges filmed live-action wraparound segments for The New 3 Stooges cartoon series. The live-action segments are enjoyable, but the cartoons are dreadful.

Like I said Joe Besser aka Curly Joe or one of the lame New Curly.

Shemp was the last best replacement for Curly anyway

Joe Besser and Curly Joe are two different people, and Curly was a replacement for Shemp before Shemp was a replacement for Curly.

I have it, too. Good price for all 190 shorts, but it doesn't contain the 3-D versions of Spooks! or Pardon my Backfire. At least, Sony remastered both as extras for The Mad Magician Blu from Twilight Time. When they reissued all the shorts back in 2012, they had a bonus 3-disc set that had almost all the solo efforts of Shemp Howard, Joe Besser, and Joe DeRita, plus a few features featuring the Stooges and three Columbia cartoons with a Stooges theme. However, Mill Creek recently put out all the extras onto a more massive Stooges DVD package.

this set has a runtime of about 3200 minutes

while this one has a runtime of over 3800 minutes
