I've never hear of Uncork'd so can't say anything specific.
Pressed MOD like non CHoice Sony, Univeral MOD, Warner Archives are identical to any other bluray and is dependent upon the transfer sent to the replication plant. Burned Disc are a different issue. It's still dependent on the source, the transfers, and then adds a layer of playability. BD-R are far more prone to immediate failure, substantial Player compatibility and seems to have higher failure rates after a relatively short period of time given Sony Choice Collection short lived experiment. Most of these tiny distributors don't have a great record of putting out quality products though honestly many of them are dealing with very low budget, poorly maintained source elements that even a high dollar rescue would have trouble with. Many are using abysmal quality Public Domain elements at best. Again -- no direct knowledge of Uncork'd discs so nothing specific about them. The only review I can find on this site of any of their releases in the DOOMED Roger Corman Documentary which actually got a nice writeup here. Last edited by hariseldon; 09-27-2019 at 06:45 PM. |

I occasionally buy a Uncork'd release, but it'll usually be DVD because the DVDs are almost always pressed and are often sold in stores like Walmart. I have a couple of BD-R Uncork'd releases (one being the Doomed! release mentioned in the post above). They range from looking decent to looking like a DVD-quality movie slapped on a BD-R disc.
I'd say the main issue is that many of the movies are really low budget films shot with cheap cameras. The main qualities people look for in Blu-ray won't be as apparent with these, so frankly the movie won't look that much better on Blu-ray than it does on DVD. And with the DVD usually being a pressed disc and half the price of the Blu-ray, it's hard not to pick choose it over the Blu-ray. I'd say research the movie first, then decide if it's worth getting on a burnt Blu-ray disc or the cheaper pressed DVD disc. |
