I'm really interested in seeing how this looks. The outdoor scenes, shot on film, could look awesome, but the indoor scenes, shot on 1981-vintage video, could be problematic.

The UK release which came out several weeks ago hasn't been well received overall even with the direct 1080/50 encode. Taking that and massaging to US std probably isn't going to improve matters.

OTOH, I don't have the DVD to replace so at some point I'll pick this or the UK set up.

I was hoping to see some comparison clips by now of the blu-ray. I picked up the DVD release last Christmas from Barnes & Noble ($7 and change at the time), it looks reasonably good to me upscaled on my T.V. It kind of sounds like the blu-ray for HHGTTG doesn't offer much improvement over the DVD upscaled.

I'd still like to see some comparison footage though -- I might go for the blu if I find a good deal on it.

It is a less than stellar release but people have been raving about the audio and extras. Unfortunately, the main feature is both cropped (compared to the dvd image) and upscaled. I bought the UK blu-ray but have never owned the dvd. Though, the cropping is annoying to me, all the extras make it worth the purchase.

The whole series is an upscale with no true HD footage, the outdoor material shot on film is presented as an extra and its ranges in quality from rough to quite poor so no big lose not having it spliced back into the episodes however it is a shame they didn't include the HD animated sequences as they are far superior.

The real meat of this set is the lossless audio and mountains of extras.

Everybody else seems to be OK with it though, so another Amazon problem

Possibly Walmart, but I'm not 100% sure they had a listing before.

I pre-ordered it a month ago; it still says arriving tomorrow, but that's clearly not true, as it hasn't even shipped. I imagine they'll get around to sending the delay (or cancellation) email at some point...

I went to https://shop.bbc.com/, and it is listed as "Pre-order" with no release date. It has definitely been delayed, but I can't find any information on why or how long.

I ordered this. If video quality is anything like the Martian Chronicles high resolution picture, I'll be delighted.

Negative Side comment: Poory cover art which doesn't reflect the series at all.

Amazon CS says it's temporarily delayed as they didn't receive their stock for fulfillment, supposedly a short delay so we'll see

Oh, I most definitely will not get it, at least not on time, they just haven't bothered to update my order status yet. Not sure if it's an actual delay of the release, or just an Amazon supply issue; at the moment, it's not even available to order from Amazon.

It's just Amazon. I can confirm this isn't delayed because I'm holding a copy in my hand in my Walmart. Just got off work, made my usual Tuesday run thru the movies, and there it is. 19.96, we got two copies. Well, one now...

Edit: was going to post pics, but I keep getting "upload failed". This is a three disc set, 1 with the show, 2 with the original extras (including "formerly easter eggs from 2002 DVD"), and disc 3 is all new extras, totalling a whopping 192 minutes! An absolute steal at $19.96. Also, disc 1 includes four audio options: original mono, 1981 stereo, 2018 stereo, and a 5.1 surround mix.

You are lucky. I can't even find this on the Walmart app.

Found it on the dotcom site... and it's five dollars more, 24.98. If you're near a store, just pick it up there. They were down the aisle, not on the new release endcap.

It showed as in stock at my local Walmart, and I found the shelf tag for it, but there was nothing there; an employee scanned it, and said it shows as still on order. Meanwhile, it turned back up on Amazon, but only through a third party seller for $23.61. My Amazon pre-order still says arriving today, despite having never shipped, and the day being over. I don't know what's going on with this release...
