Default Blu-Army: Lets get the word out why to choose Blu (Helpful promo piece included)

I, like most on the forum pretty much consider the first phase of Blu-Ray's struggle for mass-market potential over. (against HD DVD)
I feel that now, as has been discussed heavily on the forums, we need to focus our attention on helping to educate those who have not experienced Blu-Ray, or think DVD is 'good enough', when they have a perfectly good HDTV going to waste.
With this in mind, I have created the following promotional piece for everyone to use. The one displayed below is just a web version, but below it is a link to download it as a print-quality PDF.

Link to the High Quality PDF

You'll notice, I don't even bring up HD DVD once in the promotional piece. I simply state the benefits and basic information about why Blu-Ray is so great. I handed these out at people who've been fence-sitting at work today, and I encourage everyone to do the same.

Enjoy!

Why the need to "battle" SD-DVD?

There's no reason hi- and lo- def media can't co-exist. If there's a benefit to driving SD-DVD out what is it?

Yea, this stuff cracks me up!! It's like some people just always need a fight.

Spent all this time fighting DUD and that isn't even OFFICIALLY over yet and were picking another target?

It seems that some people now have no purpose in life again now that this war is closing. What to do? Even the forum discussions have gotten old, bland and nothing really to debate anymore.

I think more or less the big problems now are that the majority of HDTV owners watch standard definition movies, not knowing about high def optical media or not having experienced the difference themselves.
I don't look at it so much as a 'Blu vs DVD smack down fight' so much as a get the word out to consumers with HD equipment what they could be getting out of Blu-Ray.

I did not intend this to sound like a battle. Perhaps I should revise the thread title. I'm simply talking about going out and educating people on why we think Blu-Ray is so great as fans of the format. I just wanted to share a promo piece I built to help others who were interested in that. Not picking fights.

I agree I think people need to get educated about Blu-Ray & show them the benefits over DVD. I know people that own HDTV's that don't own any HDM. If you go to Best Buy they will definitely try to sell someone a Blu-Ray player first before all of the DVD players because of the added value of HD.

When you put it that way then I guess I could get behind it but I do my part by bragging at the office how good it looks and I've already convinced 4 guys to buy a PS3, haha.

I don't think there is anyone on this forum that hasn't talked about blu to other people. Heck, I got both my brothers to buy blu in the last 90 days.

To use this sheet really doesn't sell the point. You need to invite them over your house and pop a disc in. That is how you sell it!!

Just like any great technology, it will eventually make its rounds through word of mouth and that is doing its job already.

Sorry for the repost, I quoted the wrong guy!!

It just seems like common sense to me. If HDM doesn't eventually make significant progress against DVD, do you really think the studios will continue to bother with HDM? Making progress against DVD is important and is the next step (imo). HDM is far from being the drivers seat (again, imo) and consumers need to be educated on it if it's going to succeed.

+1

Add to that studios won't release certain movies until mass adoption is well underway. I would like to see the Star Wars movies, as well as certain lesser known films on Blu-Ray.

The more Blu-Ray "cuts" into lo-def, the more likely we will see more diverse titles on the "coming soon" page.

Default Um, yeah.

I made a post a few days ago with a cut and paste copy of a letter I sent to friends to prevent them from wasting their money on slashed-to-sell H-DuD players.

I'll repost it here, and feel free to cut and paste to sent a note to YOUR friends...

------

Hi All,

Anyone that's gotten within spitting distance of me over the last year or so may have been subjected to one of my rants about Blu-Ray.

What's Blu-Ray you ask? Silly rabbits...

Most of us have DVD players... Some of us have really cool high definition televisions. The next generation of HIGH DEFINITION DVD players have been fighting over the last year or so to become king of the hill. The two different technologies are called HD-DVD and Blu-ray.

Long story short, they are DVD's that hold high definition movies, but you can't play them on a regular DVD player - yes, you'd need a new player to hook up to your TV to play a HD-DVD or Blu-Ray disc.

Many people compare the war between Blu-Ray and HD-DVD to the war, years ago, between VHS and Betamax tapes. VHS won that war. Because of the current war, many people have been holding off on buying a next generation player - until a clear winner was decided.

Information was finally released that is the final nail in the coffin, the death knell, for HD-DVD. Warner Brothers, the only company publishing movies in both Blu-ray format AND HD-DVD format announced that by May of 2008, they will be completely Blu-ray exclusive.

With many other companies having already gone Blu exclusive, Warner brothers was seen as the tipping point to the whole shebang. With Warner's announcement, the battle for hi-definition format supremacy, in effect, is over.

I'm not sending this out to be some kind of shill for Blu-Ray. But since many people are buying high-definition tv sets, and MAY be looking to watch high definition movies on them, I thought I'd pass this along. Before you go to a store and see a shelf full of slashed-to-sell HD-DVD players (like you would have seen shelves of Betamax players 20 years ago), I just wanted to get the word out to you - my peeps - not to be fooled by low prices or an uneducated store clerk.

I'd encourage anyone interested in learning more about hi-definition video players to go to www.blu-ray.com for more information (and to read posts from a lot of very happy Blu-Ray owners, especially given the news from Warner). If you have any specific questions, I'd be happy to answer them if I can. (Also, here is a link to the WB announcement http://www.timewarner.com/corp/newsr...700383,00.html )

Some quick points:

1) Yes, a Blu-Ray player WILL play all your regular DVD's, and most will even "upconvert" them to make them look even better on an HD TV.

2) Playstation 3's are game systems, but also play Blu-Ray movies. In fact, the PS3 is STILL regarded as one of the best BR players on the market.

3) Even if you don't have a Hi-Def TV, Blu-Rays still look GREAT on a regular TV. When they scan the movie to make a Hi-Def version, time is spent cleaning the film, and revising the sound, for maximum picture and sound quality. So watching on a tube-style TV is still better than a DVD because the picture looks better. Later, when you get a HDTV, you're ready to rock.

The prices are still coming down, but especially if you're someone with a little extra cash, and like new toys (especially one to go with that nice new LCD or plasma TV you bought) - Check out Blu-Ray.

Just trying to save you some money - avoid the temptation to buy a dirt-cheap HD-DVD player - the stores are basically clearing their shelves. But for those of you sitting on the fence, waiting for a winner to be decided... wait no longer.

Nit-pick > you spell Blu-Ray with a capital "R". Getting the name right might be a good starting point as far as educating the masses.

Otherwise looks great.

You know,
thats interesting to point out.
I've always typed it "Blu-Ray", but you're the first person to ever show me the error of my ways

I'll make a corrected version when I get home tonight.

I'm afraid that perhaps the biggest casualty of the end of the HD format war will be .. this forum, since most of the topics seem to be related to the war.
