Default Tideland (2005) coming from Arrow

Tideland Blu-ray PRE-ORDER

Quote:
Description

For his tenth feature, Terry Gilliam (Time Bandits, Twelve Monkeys) adapted Mitch Cullin’s celebrated cult novel Tideland, a work he once described as “Alice in Wonderland meets Psycho through the eyes of Amélie.”

To escape her unhappy life in a remote part of Texas, nine-year-old Jeliza-Rose dreams up an elaborate fantasy world. But the reality of having junkie parents – played by Jeff Bridges (The Big Lebowski) and Jennifer Tilly (Bound) – and the influence of her eccentric neighbours begins to encroach, turning her daydreams ever darker.

A rich slice of Southern Gothic blurring whimsical fantasy with unsettling reality, Tideland is among Gilliam’s most personal works – indeed, with its shifts between the amusing and the macabre, expressive camerawork and striking special effects, the film could be the very definition of Gilliamesque!

I'm one of the few people who actually like this Gilliam film. I have the quite decent German release with many of the same special features, so not sure I'll bite.

Ah man, just bought the German HD-DVD of it a month ago, but have not seen it yet.

Might get this if it has better PQ and AQ.

I also have the excellent German release. The only major drawback it has is lossy Dolby Digital 5.1 only for English. I might double dip if I see it cheap. I would certainly double dip if they did a 4k UHD disc. Arrow has some good titles but they need to start putting out 4k discs.

"Getting Gilliam" used to have a commentary on the DVD, I wonder why it keeps getting dropped from the Blus.

I'm a huge fan of Tideland is definitely one of my top five favorite Gilliam films. Excellent, and very underrated. I remember the controversy that surrounded this when it came out, though didn't see anything wrong with the movie when I finally saw this circa 2010. Yes, it's deeply disturbing in many ways re: the death of the parents,
[Show spoiler]the corpse of the father rotting in the living room
, etc. - but I didn't find any of the film at all offensive.

In any case, looking forward to the film on Blu. The DVD has OK PQ, but overall has washed-out color - especially when seen on an HD set.

Picked that one up in 2008? It's a nice disc. I'll end up picking this one up since it's a different format.

I happy for fans of the film, but man oh man do I hate this movie. It was a struggle to make it to the end. Gilliam is a talented guy who makes some great movies, but this is not one of them.

I’m not familiar with the website in the pre-order link. Why is this limited edition there and not on arrow’s website?

Cool, didn't buy the German version yet, so I'll wait for the Arrow for comparison.

Be careful of expressing a negative opinion here; you may just find yourself branded a "threadcrapper" (as I was a few posts back).

In any event, I'll be receiving a copy of this as part of my Indiegogo Gold Backer package in August, and will be happy to unload it for a nice price to any of you Tideland fans out there.

This is $9.99 through the iTunes store, and I would imagine it will feature all of the special features. FYI

From the Urban Dictionary:

"A Thread Crapper is someone who feels the need to spread their disdain for a topic on a message board, while adding nothing constructive to the conversation."

Sounds about right to me.

I've been rapped for it once in the past by moderators here, and deservedly so, but I've since mended my erring ways.

this is the general notion I get from the movie, hence why I've never bothered to see this one; I might get it out of curiosity, if I don't like it, I can sell it (hopefully) (I don't have much luck selling my shit here at bluray.com for some reason).

You should see it at least once. Love it or hate it, it's unforgettable. And who knows, you might end up at least liking it! The performances are flawless; I can't imagine one finding fault with the performances even if they don't like the film.

good price currently at DD with the coupon HOT15.

Tried watching this years back but found it loud and abrasive.

I feel like giving it another shot though and will look forward to picking up the Arrow at some point.
