Default High Frame Rate

Greetings,

Is Ang Lee's Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk the only HFR blu ray to date? (In either standard blu ray or ultra hd blu ray). If not, lets create a list. If so, has there been any indication from the industry thus far that HFR is something that may be utilized on any future releases?

BLLHW is pure eye candy and a joy to watch for that alone. It just seems that the capabilities of medium are being utterly wasted if there are no other HFR releases thus far or planned in the near future.

I wish the BBC would record their wildlife 4K stuff higher than 25p. They look stunning, if the motion was as lifelike it would blow socks off. It'd look far better even at the 4K Blu-ray formats current limitation of 60p.

IMHO, films don't really benefit from HFR, but the stuff above certainly would. Though for films already shot with HFR, I'd certainly like the Hobbit films to appear on 4k at 60p.

Standard Blu-ray does not support 1080p60, p59.94 or p50 formats. Those fall under AVC codec's Level 4.2 High Profile, which is outside BD specs (max Level 4.1).

Only other UltraHD BD in 2160p HFR that comes to mind is German release of Planet 4K documentary. Cover claims 50fps HFR. It's just about to be released.

If Ang Lee's Gemini Man was a Sony movie I would say HFR 59.94 fps was certainty but it is Paramount's so who knows.

The Hobbit movies will be released at some point for sure but those were shot in 48fps, frame rate not currently supported by UHD BD.

As far as i know, there's only been four releases with HFR contents. They are as follows;

1.) Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk 4K - HFR 60 fps
https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Billy...lu-ray/173484/

2.) Namibia: The Spirit of Wilderness 4K (2015) - HFR 50 fps
https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Namib...lu-ray/165383/

3.) Oklahoma! (1955) - HFR 30 fps (progressive 30p in @60i container)
https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Oklahoma-Blu-ray/99865/

4.) Gemini Man 4K - HFR 60 fps (?)

I'm not yet sure about number four, 'Gemini Man'. Hopefully it will be 60p as Ang Lee's previous film.

Nice. I haven't heard about this one. It seems to be directed by the same guy who directed the 'Namibia' movie. (Alexander Sass).

I’d hoped they’d use pulldown to allow a 60i Blu-ray but they never bothered.
