United Kingdom Enemy (2014) - February 9th 2015

Enemy Blu-ray

I am pleased to find out that CURZON FILM WORLD are releasing the follow up to 2013's PRISONERS, Denis Villeneuve's ENEMY starring Jake Gyllenhaal.

I was upset to see a lack of cinematic release in the UK and ended up having to download the film (and indeed loved it). I noticed recently it is now getting a cinematic release on January 2nd 2015, and it seems Artificial Eye/Curzon Film World had the sense to pick it up for the UK market for DVD and Blu-Ray too.

I am very happy with this announcement and hope it means more people can enjoy this film. CURZON FILM WORLD are handling some of the more underrated independent features featuring household names - I am also pleased they have released one of my other favourite films of this year in David Gordon Green's JOE (starring Nicolas Cage) and will be releasing his follow-up in the new year, MANGLEHORN (starring Al Pacino).

Brilliant news - this film might just have the best film score of the year, by the way.

This was an..... interesting movie. Prisoners is about 10,000 times better IMO. The director forgot to employ something called payoff in this one.

They're completely different kinds of films. Besides, it has a payoff. It has a great big payoff.

Shh! 'Nuff of that

Think it'd be a great film to give repeat viewings of personally, so I can't wait to get hold of it!

NEWS

Quote:
British distributors Curzon Film World/Artificial Eye have detailed their upcoming Blu-ray release of director Denis Villeneuve's latest film, Enemy (2013), starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Mélanie Laurent, and Sarah Gadon. The release will be available for purchase on February 9th.

Official synopsis: Jake Gyllenhaal reteams with his Prisoners director, Denis Villeneuve, in this sexy and hypnotically surreal psychological thriller that breathes new life into the doppleganger tradition. Adam Bell (Gyllenhaal) is a glum, disheveled history professor, who seems disinterested even his beautiful girlfriend, Mary (Laurent). Watching a movie on the recommendation of a colleague, Adam spots his double, a bit-part actor named Anthony Clair, and decides to track him down. The identical men meet and their lives become bizarrely and irrevocably intertwined. Gyllenhaal is transfixing as both Adam and Anthony, provoking empathy as well as disapproval while embodying two distinct personas. With masterfully controlled attention to detail, Villeneuve takes us on an enigmatic and gripping journey through a world that is both familiar and strange — and hard to shake off long after its final, unnerving image.

Special Features:

The Making of 'Enemy' - 50 mins
Interviews - 44 mins
Theatrical Trailer

Much like with Joe last year, I can't wait to see this one again.

Any idea why they chose this cover art rather than any of the official posters, Pro-B? Noticed there's a lack of the usual Curzon Film World banner too...bit odd.

They really went with 'This is a moody thriller not an arty mind****' art, didn't they?

Yeah, bit of a shame they didn't go with one of the original posters...ah well! It seems to be the best Blu-ray transfer of the film so far and there are some extras on there. Weirdly, unlike most of the other Curzon Film World titles it's in a regular amaray rather than a slimline case. But all the same, I'm happy it has seen a release!

better dont get the German BD, it is less sharp than the US one despite the higher bitrate.

the UK BD seems to be the one to get, because compared to the US and German BD it doesnt have additional teal mixed in which darkens the picture. looks more like it was probably meant to look with the movies own style only.

It's a pretty hazy, yellow film at the best of times. I don't remember seeing much teal.
