Default 4K Titles with No Blu-ray

Hi All,

Curious to know how everyone deals with 4K titles that do not come with a Blu-ray.

Do you keep the old Blu-ray?

Examples:

Scream 4K, no Blu-ray. Do you keep the crappy Blu-ray that was released prior?

In The Line of Fire 4K, no Blu-ray. Do you keep the so so Blu-ray that was released prior?

Usually I do. It also helps that I create 1:1 digital backups.

I bought a bunch of 3 and 4 disc cases. I take the blu-ray and dvd discs from previous versions and put them all in one 4K case together.

No. I can only watch one disc at a time, and there is 99.9% chance that I'm not going to opt to watch the lesser-quality release at any time in the future. Shelf space is at a premium, so bye-bye old discs.

Once I upgrade I upgrade. I'll only keep the old disc if the extras aren't ported over.

I am not far away from you. 80 TB and counting.

I am sure 90% of the 4K crowd won't even touch the Blu-ray. Put me in the category. I only touch the BD for doing A-B comparison or when the 4K is crappier than the BD (Early Universal releases).

Due to way too many contents, I stopped caring about extras as well these days. I am happy with the 4K disc only.

I've actually been surprised in recent months that it doesn't eat up more of my PC's power. Even with all the drives running and even a ripping a disc at the same time I only end up using 20-30%. I bought an ABS back in July of 2019 and never have I bought a better desktop and I've owned quite a few.

I hold onto the Blu-ray. I only have a UHD setup in my living room, so if I want to watch something in the bedroom, it limits my options. Also I’m the only person in my circle of friends that has gone 4k and I lend out movies often.

At least you've got a good reason.

I keep the Blu-rays for OCD reasons

To clarify out of curiosity, by 1:1 do you mean you save full-size rips of the disc with no compressing of the file?

And do you do that just as a backup or do you watch those digital copies instead of the disc?

They do exactly that.

It's so cool, don't you think?

That's correct. I also strip all of the unneeded dub and subtitle tracks.

Both. It also makes screen captures much faster.
