United Kingdom Rarewaves (UK Import Deals for Canadians)

https://www.rarewaves.com

Usually most of us go to the Rarewaves eBay store, but I thought it might be fun to start a thread dedicated to the actual website.

Shipping looks reasonable and all the prices are in CAD. Charges to CC are in CAD without any F/X.

Starting things off with the Standard Dawn of the Dead 4k set for $48.99

4k discs are Region Free. The bonus features blu-ray disc is Region B.

Things might still be cheaper on their eBay store due to the fact that it's free shipping there, while on their website it looks like you get charged a shipping fee.

I put in an order for the Dawn of the Dead 4k I posted above, the price that was on my receipt is 1:1 with my CC pending charge with no F/X. So, yes, it's CAD. The total was $54.25 CAD

The receipt also mentions CAD:

It says CAD $ on the very bottom of the site in a little drop-down.

The shipping fee may also be worked into the eBay listings, too. Something to consider

So shipping to Canada is a flat rate?

I'll stick to buying from them via Ebay as it doesn't appear that they take paypal if you buy from them direct.

If the currency is CAD, do they are add the FOREX fee into the exchange rate like Zavvi and Amazon?

I can't see an option to use GBP at checkout (on the US side) so it looks like they're using some ISP or location to determine Currency choice.

Using Opera VPN -- the price of the Dawn of the Dead 4K appears to be £27.68
Using google $38.99 USD
Translated $1.409 USD/GBP exchange rate while VISA direct says todays rate is $1.381

CAD48.99 = 1.770 CAD/GBP while VISA 1.733

So it appears they're pulling an Amazon and hiding the extra fee though 2% isn't a bad fee compared to Zavvi's 3% and Amazon's 3-4.5%

It's also better to go through eBay because they can help expedite matters if you have a problem with your order.

It's a shopify-powered site, too. So, I am going to err on the side maybe shopify is handling all of that.

Agreed, if you want the reliability of the eBay storefront, stick with that.

For now, I'm just going to put blind faith in that one order and hope they're just as good as their eBay counter-parts. I'll report back with any updates. Seeing this copy is not currently available on the eBay store, I do hope that means they still have stock on their main site. We'll see, I guess.

You can also order from Rarewaves-ca via amazon.ca but like ebay you will be paying a higher price and unlike ebay you will pay shipping per items ordered.

Considering the Rarewaves' own site charges just a flat rate of $5.26 and has a lower price even before the 10% off its a pretty decent deal if you keep the order value under whatever triggers Canada customs.

I've ordered directly from their page a few times and have had good experiences. Becomes much cheaper than ebay if you order a few items since the flat shipping is only applied to the first item and ebay's prices include this shipping cost in the item price (especially if you tack on the 10% off code).

You're also very unlikely to get dinged in customs because they ship each item individually like Zavvi does, even if it's in the same order.

Only complaint is that, like basically every other retailer that offers free international shipping, everything including box sets are shipped in bubble mailer or cardboard mailer so expect dents and busted corners on all your items. But that will be the case if you buy through them through ebay or amazon anyways.

Also, if you don't feel like making a new account every time for the 10% off code, I've found that they will send you a 5% discount if you keep an item in your cart for a few days.

Actually RAREWAVES both on and off Ebay have sent me up to 5 discs in 1 envelope before. Last month (or possibly the month before that) I had 3 packages show up, each had 3 Blu-Ray's inside. They used to be like ZAVVI but more recently it's hit or miss. I didn't get hit with customs anyhow so I'm fine, just noticed the change since COVID

Now that I think of it, even when I ordered the Hammer set (from RAREWAVES EUROPE) and Charlies Angels (from RAREWARES USA) during the pricing error fiasco, both came in the same box as well. It was the first time I got a "box" from rarewaves. This was during COVID also

Strange, that's not the case for me. Are you logged into your account when you add items to your cart?

Yes. And I tried several browsers all gave the same result.

The banner at the top of the Rarewaves site says it accepts paypal.

Got my Dawn of the Dead 4k today! Shipped in a recyclable bubble mailer, no damage to it whatsoever. I was flabbergasted.
