Default Harry Potter franchise

Honestly the first 2 movies were decent but not great, the series started getting good with the 3rd movie and has been improving with each movie since. Excellent adult casts with improving young actors and this is becoming one of the best film franchises ever in my opinion. The last book sucked so I'm hoping Yates can do what he did with the sixth film. Cut down on the boring crap and just focus on and empathize the fun parts. Honestly if done right
[Show spoiler]the deaths of Harry and Snape should be two of the best scenes in the entire series

Never seen one of these yet, figured I'd wait till all of them had been released. Interesting spoiler there, doesn't ruin anything for me cause frankly I wouldn't care about that lol. Still interesting none the less.

Yeah it will be good to see how the last two episodes covering Deathly Hallows come out. Hopefully, really good.

The first 2 where FAMILY films, my god why don't people get that, they're not for adults. The 3rd one was great, as it's the film non-book fans want. 4th sucks ass, 5th is great. 6th was rushed, I'm expecting good things from the final films

Agree the first 2 were more family friendly because the characters were younger. I disagree with the OP that they were the worst 2. I actually think in the writing and directing area they are the 2 best of the series. The last 3 have been altered so badly that other than the character names they really didn't hold true to the books at all except in key scenes. I understand cutting out the slower parts but adding in crap that's not even in the books is pathetic. In the 4th and 5th movies it's so bad it's like they didn't even read the book before writing the script.

Exactly - the series grew up as the characters did (the books, and then the movies as well). That's part of what makes the whole series compelling. Because it really is about growing up, going to school, being scared of girls etc. every bit as much as it is about wizards and magic and stuff.

I’ve read the books 2-3x each and all of the main parts are in the 4th & 5th movies.

They had to cut the stuff that really had nothing to do w/the main point of the books….ie: hermoine’s SPEW crusade or whatever it was called.

Overall, they are holding pretty true to the books…..and the scripts have all been signed off on/approved by JK Rowling before they were made.

I actually thought the last movie was one of the best... characters have all been long established, the actors have matured and I thought the slower dialogue pace was a welcome change and some of the sweeping landscape visuals were fantastic as well.

I agree, HBP was very well done. The atmosphere is getting a bit heavy, and there is a sense of biding time until the approaching big climax comes, which makes it unsatisfying in a way I suppose. But that is just the slot it occupies in the series, it isn't a fault of the movie.

I agree. I was worried before seeing the movie, because it was my least favorite book of the series (not a fan of tons of flashbacks). But I was pleasantly surprise by it. The movie had more of a realistic feel toward the characters and setting and less about "Oooo look we're doing maaajic here!"

I remember that; I was thinking that if I were there I'd tell Hermione to call it something else. Like ELF: Elven Liberation Front. (thank you Stryfe/Marvel)

You could argue that it ties back to Kreacher's involvement in the final book. I remember hearing that Yates had initially removed Kreacher completely from Order of the Phoenix, then it was brought to his attention that Kreacher had to be there due to events in Deathly Hallows.

Exactly. There was less jumping from one spectacular F/X scene to the next, where it seems that story is sacrificed to having one scene try and top the previous scene. Hopefully the next two continue this trend to close out the franchise.

The fourth movie is ruined 15 mintues in when we see David Tennant, completely restructures the entire plot of that year. Parts of the fifth are entertaining, but the subversive anti-establishment of rebellious teenagers could have been played up much better and I was disappointed with the battle between the order and the death eaters.

One of the better film franchises because each movie has been good, while none have been truly great (the most recent came close). The consistency of the series is what makes it as good as it is.

I know I there are just several scenes in the 4th & 5th movie that weren't even in the books and several instances where characters are in scenes and saying lines that other characters should have done. One instance would be Dobby getting Harry the gillyweed in the 4th movie it was Neville which honestly took away some depth to his character. The other would be all the tampering they did in the 5th movie that caused the final fight sequence to be cut in half which mad it rather lame.

The lack of Kreecher(other than the brief cameo in 5) in any of the films is really going to take away what happens with him in the 7th. Dobby's minimal appearances will make his role seem lesser as well. I think they made the movies assuming everyone read the books and when all said and done the movies on their own will be lacking the character depth and emotional investment that they had in the books.

The last one was my favourite but deep down, I only watch for Emma Watson! A good film series which hasn't destroyed the books completely.

Emma is a huge reason I watch also but honestly the series continues to improve, even though I think there should've been a lot more action in the last film. Tom Felton was pretty much cast aside for movies 3-5, glad to see him take advantage of more screen time in the last movie.
