Default 1080p contrast Q

My sharp projector is currently 1080i and has a contrast of 350:1. Would I notice much of a difference if I went to 1080p and contrast of 400:1 ?

Would I lose anything by going from HDMI to DVI?

Thanks

I didnt know 1080p tvs could go lower than like 800:1? anything over 350:1 would be a huge improvement even a comp monitor like hanns G thats 1080p and is 800:1 would be a big improvement over that.

I guess the question is will I notice a difference between the 1080i that I am currently running or should I move it to 720p?

Actually, neither you nor the OP have seen 1080i on your projectors. You have pjs that can accept a 1080i input, but that input is then downscaled and displayed at 720p.

Both of you would notice a massive difference going to a true 1080p projector, I've no doubt.

As TVs continue to get bigger, the difference will get more noticeable.

I personally can see a big difference. I only have a 40" TV, but it's a good TV, I sit about 8' from it, and I have excellent eyesight.

One reason people can't tell is they don't realize that they don't actually have a TV with 1080 resolution. Sony and other companies sold a boatload of TVs that they said were "1080 ready" (or something like that) that had a native resolution of 1366x768, which is closer to 720 (1280x720) than 1080 (1920x1080), so on those TVs you wouldn't expect to see much difference. Some people didn't understand the difference between being able to accept a 1080 signal and actually being native 1080 resolution.

Another reason is that people judge it by broadcast television. The 720 channels very often look better, because they have limited bandwidth so the image compression doesn't have to be as extreme. Blu-ray Discs do not have this bandwidth limitation.

YES thats true but u hav a setting for 720p or 1080i and their is a difference in pq between the two. The visual difference between the two is non existent except when u add motion.

The Sharp Notevision PG-B10S has a native resolution of 800x600.

The Sharp XR-10X has a native resolution of 1024x768.

1080 resolution is 1920x1080. 720 resolution is 1280x720. Both of these projectors are below 720 resolution.

I'd guess your projector is having problems keeping up when downscaling a 1920x1080 image, which has twice the pixels of a 1280x720 image, so it apparently can't keep up with the frame rate when taking an 1080 input.

This projector has a 4:3 aspect ratio, so if it's showing the entire image as a letterboxed image, then you're getting 1024x576, which is 589,824 image pixels. 720p is 1280x720=921,600 image pixels.

1080 resolution is 1920x1080=2,073,600 image pixels.
