Default Picnic at Hanging Rock (2018)

A penetrating reimagining of the iconic and timeless Australian novel, Picnic at Hanging Rock depicts the mysterious disappearances of three schoolgirls and their governess on Valentine’s Day, 1900. The complex, interwoven narrative charts the subsequent investigation and the event’s far-reaching impact on the students, families, and staff of Appleyard College and on the nearby township. Theories abound, long-held secrets are exposed, and paranoia and hysteria set in, as in vastly differing ways their lives are changed forever.

Natalie Dormer (Game of Thrones, The Hunger Games films) is “spectacularly mesmerizing” (The Boston Globe) as the school’s enigmatic headmistress, alongside an excellent cast that features Don Hany (East West 101), Samara Weaving (Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri), Anna McGahan (The Doctor Blake Mysteries), and Yael Stone (Orange Is the New Black).

Special features
Cast Interviews: Natalie Dormer, Samara Weaving, and other cast members talk about their characters, favorite scenes, and more. (20 min.)
Crew Interviews: The director, writer, producer designer, and other crew members talk about the inspiration for the series, shooting at Hanging Rock, and more. (24 min).
Behind-the-scenes Footage: Watch behind-the-scenes footage from various shooting locations including Hanging Rock, Newport Railway, Werribee Mansion, and more (37 min.)

Anyone know if this Acorn release is superior in any way to the Australian blu-ray?

The Austalian release runs at the (correct) 25fps while the American release runs at 24fps. Special features are the same.

Not that I doubt you, but where did you get this information that 25fps is the correct original speed? I often have this question about TV releases and don't know where to find the answers.

The chances are very high I would say. It's an Austalian production shot for Australian TV which is PAL territory (25 fps). It's *usually* safe to assume that tv productions shot for a domestic market in Europe, Australia or other PAL markets were shot at 25 fps. But it's not a 100% correlation. There have been instances in uk/us co-productions were they shot at 24 fps and made a sped-up 25 fps for domestic release (and the other way around). There has also been movies, like some of Lars Von Trier's later films, shot at 25 fps but shown at 24 fps in most of the world (Like AntiChrist). You also have weird situations like the Danish movie "Flame and Citron: The Nazi Assassins" which was shot at 24 fps, but the sound and post-proudction was all done in 25 fps. All the raw-footage was sped up to 25 fps before editing. The final master was therefore 25 fps and exhibited as such.

The only way to be 100% certain is to either get a confirmation from the dP, or find some behind-the-scenes footage that shows the filming of the show where you can either see the fps-led on the camera or the live-feed to the video-village monitors (where you usually can see the framerate and color-temp overlay). This is how I found that 'AntiChrist' and 'Melancholia' was shot at 25 fps and not 24 fps as I was led to believe.

How is this series by the way ? I love the original 1975 movie. I heard this series was not very good at all...

Beyond awful. Just stick with the 1975 film - either cut though preferably the 1975 cut.
