Default mpeg2 encoded Blu Ray disc not playing smoothly

When I play Blu Ray DVD encoded as MPEG-4 AVC like Cars, Ratatouille
or VC-1 like Polar Express it plays fine.

But when I try to play a Blu Ray like Over California encoded with mpeg2, I have issues with the playback.

I have found that the "Over California" one has a high bit rate almost 40Mbps.

The DVD has no issue as I tried it on my friends Playstation 3 and it plays perfectly.

Now can anybody suggest what could be the solution to the issue.

My m/c is a Compaq Presario SR1710NX with 3 GB RAM, Windows Vista Ultimate 32 bit, Power DVD Delux 7.3.3516, LG GGW-H20L Blu Ray burner and Sapphire HD 2400 PRO PCIe vide card.

The Bly Ray drive is connected to a SATA1 (150Mbps) connector.

The HD 2400 Pro cards do have issues with MPEG 2 acceleration. have a look on the AVS forums this thread in particular http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showt...php?p=13449838

The registry setting as suggested in avsforum did not help.

Unfortunately thats the best i can do as they have tried everything over there. I presume you've tried all the revisions of the 8x catalyst drivers?

I have tried the Ati Catalyst 8.2 and 8.3 drivers.

I am gonna try the drivers directly from Sapphires site. Though I doubt it would make any difference.

Thanks for your help.

Nvidia makes the best cards for BD playback. If you have an open PCI-E port - I would buy a 8500gt or above (if your a gamer go for a 9 series).

I appreciate you advice.

I am trying to get some low end components to work so that I can build some more.

Which card plays the best blu-ray is open to debate prerich You like Nvidia i like ATI, you like Ford i like Chrysler etc etc. Personal choice. And normally the cheapest to be honest

As long as it accelerates MPEG4-AVC / VC1 (with stable drivers ) doesn't matter which card you get for blu-ray. Thats where google is your friend !!!

The ATI 2400 Pro has driver issues (wasn't really a good card from the outset to be honest) but Nvidia products under Vista has them too.

In the end it's you pays your money you takes your chance

I can only go off my personal experience (and budget!) ATI great picture quality - Nvidia great gaming. Either way Vista suxs bigtime!!
