11/21:
A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving (1973) Still an annual fave.
Planes, Trains & Automobiles (1987) John Hughes' absolute best film. Flat out hilarious with a lot of heart and made that much better thanks to Steve Martin and John Candy giving what has to be one of their best performances here.
12/1:
Santa Claus Conquers the Martians (1964) One of my faves each season. Cheaply and badly made but full of delight and charm plus it's a real laugh riot.
12/2:
*First time viewing*
Pinocchio's Christmas (1980) Looks like the magic has completely dispersed from the Animagic. Lame songs and an even lamer story. Just as bad as Rankin-Bass' Jack Frost.
A Christmas Carol (1936) Wasn't a fan of this MGM version when I first saw it but popped up on TCM and decided to give it another shake but didn't change anything for me. Still glamorous looking but marred by stiff acting and just overall dull.
12/3:
The Leprechauns' Christmas Gold (1981) *First time viewing* An improvement over Jack Frost and Pinocchio's Christmas but still forgettable.
12/4:
Mr. Magoo's Christmas Carol (1962) Feels incomplete but it's still charming and a real delight with many great songs.
12/5:
Bugs Bunny's Looney Christmas Tales (1979) Funny Looney Tunes compilation.
12/6:
Bah Humduck! A Looney Tunes Christmas (2006)
A really funny and quite solid Looney Tunes version of A Christmas Carol.
Ice Age: A Mammoth Christmas Special 3D (2011) *First time viewing*
Some amusing moments here and there but just sub standard.
12/7:
Christmas Evil (1980) Got the chance to see this last night on the big screen. It was interesting to see this with a audience and was a real treat. Still manages to be a truly effective horror piece despite a lot of shortcomings due to its low budget.
12/8:
A Garfield Christmas Special (1987) My fave of the many Garfield specials of the 80s. Funny with many sweet moments.
Dr. Seuss' How The Grinch Stole Christmas (1966) The original and still the best.
Bruno The Kid (Episode 29-"The Last Christmas) Found this deep, deep, deep in my Christmas special VHS archives.
I watched this series when it originally aired and was actually fun to watch and this Christmas episode is just as enjoyable.
12/9:
It Happened on Fifth Avenue (1947) This has become one of my seasonal faves. Despite its far fetched plot, the film is filled to the brim with humor, joy, delight and heart with charismatic Don DeFore leading the way.
12/10:
I'll Be Seeing You (1945) *First time viewing* A heavy yet solid, engaging and moving romantic drama. Ginger Rogers gives an excellent dramatic performance as does Joseph Cotten as the WWII soldier trying to overcome his PTSD. Shirley Temple's character, though well acted by Temple, was a bit annoying at points.
12/11:
A Christmas Carol (1984) Such a great adaptation and ties with the 1951 version as my fave.
12/12:
Regular Show-Season 4, Episode 9 "The Christmas Episode"
Really delightful and humorous episode. Loaded with many references that the show's known for and one of the best use of Trans-Siberian Orchestra's Carol of the Bells.
12/13:
Uncle Nick (2015) *First time viewing* Take National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation or The Ref then take the vulgarity and dark humor of Bad Santa, make it more vulgar, creepier and even more darker and you have this movie. More awkward, cringeworthy and flat out disturbing than actually funny but it does have a few funny moments plus a surprising amount of heart and cleverly ties the story to the infamous Ten Cent Beer Night incident.
Yogi First Christmas (1980) Feels standard but it's solid enough, delightful and overall enjoyable full length Hanna-Barbera TV special.
12/14:
Christmas in Connecticut (1945) A partial failed attempt at screwball comedy. The plot's far fetched and outright stupid with plot holes big enough to drive a eighteen wheeler thru but thanks to the natural charm of Barbara Stanwyck, S.Z. Sakall delivering many of the film's laughs and some delight sprinkled on, it manages to be quite enjoyable.
12/15:
Miracle on 34th Street (1947)
12/16:
Goof Troop: Have Yourself A Goofy Little Christmas (1993)
Winnie The Pooh and Christmas, Too (1993) This one always brings a smile to my face. So sweet and adorable.
Bluetoes, The Christmas Elf (1988) Another one I found on one of many old Christmas tapes. A real sub standard effort.
Babar and Father Christmas (1986) Lovable, funny and outright charming.
A Family Circus Christmas (1979) *First time viewing* Adorable with a lot of beautiful music (Sarah Vaughn sings the main song, The Dreamer) but the kids got annoying after a while.
The Trolls and The Christmas Express *First time viewing* (1980) Subpar with stupid trolls and obnoxious elves. Roger Miller's presence made this even tolerable.
Dot and Santa Claus (1981) *First time viewing* Weird and scattershot with a heavy handed enviromental message but it's watchable thanks to its chuckle inducing dirt cheap live action/animation and some fun songs throughout.
12/17:
Dial Code Santa Claus (1989) *First time viewing* I'm not sure how to describe this one. It's Home Alone before Home Alone but bloodier and outright sinister. It has some tense moments and some nifty camerawork but also has a lot of campy moments you can't help but laugh hysterically at. This was a hoot for sure and joins Santa Claus Conquers the Martians as one of the most bizarre Christmas films.
12/18:
Frosty's Winter Wonderland (1976) Watchable "sequel" to Frosty the Snowman despite the lame plot. Andy Griffith did well with the narration and singing. Caught this on AMC on-demand and it's an major picture improvement from when Freeform used to run it plus there were portions that I didn't even know was there.
12/19:
The Nutcracker Prince (1990) *First time viewing* 1/2 Dull, lifeless, downright uninspired and borderline terrible adaptation of the Nutcracker story. Tchaikovsky's music was poorly utilized, the voice work was weak as was the script. The love theme and a somewhat amusing flashback segment kept this from totally sucking.
12/20:
Trading Places (1983) *35th Anniversary* Got to see this again on the big screen here and after 25 years, it's STILL remains pure comedy gold.
12/21:
White Christmas (1954) Such a great movie musical with great songs from Irving Berlin, lots of humor, marvelous dance numbers and gorgeous Vistavision/Technicolor images. Crosby, Kaye, Clooney and Ellen make for a great on screen team plus there's Mary Wickes stealing all the scenes that she appeared in and Dean Jagger giving a terrific performance as General Waverly. A true feel good and heartfelt Christmas movie.
12/22:
The Lawrence Welk Show Christmas Reunion (1985) 1/2 Another one I found among my old VHS Christmas recordings. If you're into the champagne music genre, it's an interesting watch as this is a segment of variety programming that doesn't exist anymore.
A Charlie Brown Christmas (1965) Nice moments here and there and memorable Vince Guaraldi music but borders on being a downer.
It's Christmastime Again, Charlie Brown (1992) I've always found this one better than A Charlie Brown Christmas.
National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation (1989) A bonafide Christmas comedy classic without question.
12/23:
Yogi Bear's All-Star Comedy Caper (1982)
Christmas Comes to Pacland (1982) A fun nostalgic trip.
It's A Spongebob Christmas (2012)
Santa Claus (1959) *First time viewing* What the f*** did I just watch? Was Rene Cardona high when he made this? This will be better viewed either through MST3K or after a few glasses of Eggnog spiked with every known liquor known to man. Santa Claus Conquers The Martians this ain't, clearly.
Scrooge (1970) An excellent old school big budget musical and it feels as such with many great songs and well executed choreographed numbers. Albert Finney adds a couple of little touches in his portrayal as Ebenezer Scrooge and he does quite an excellent job of it.
Scrooged *30th Anniversary*
12/24:
Silent Night, Deadly Night 5: The Toy Maker (1991) *First time viewing* This one wasn't half bad. A surprisingly decent story, nifty special effects and a neat little score makes this far superior than all the other entries in the series and also makes for some weird, twisted holiday fun.
Frosty The Snowman (1969) Delightful and fun filled Rankin-Bass animated special.
Red Christmas (2017) *First time viewing* Dull and downright awful "aborted fetus revenge" movie. Filled with obnoxious, unlikable and stupid characters and lacks any kind of tension, suspense or even logic. Dee Wallace was the sole component that made this even watchable.

I enjoyed the month of October because I love Halloween and horror movies. Christmas has always made me very sad (I don't know why) and there are only a few yuletide movies I enjoy. I won't be able to handle this challenge, but I wish the best of luck (and fun) to those of you can.

I figured most of the 50 movie challenge for December would be Christmas movies anyways, so I might as well join in on this. I think I can find enough movies, I might even have 25 movies without using streaming services, and most are ones I've never checked out.

Home for the Holidays (1995)

A good edgy Thanksgiving comedy; directed by Jodie Foster with a great cast.

I love Christmas and the run up to it.
I'm not a fan of "too early" so I'll start in December.🎅

It's ok to start with something like Planes, Trains & Automobiles about now though.

Previously watched:
[Show spoiler]1. Peanuts: A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving
2. Peanuts: The Mayflower Voyagers
3. Garfield's Thanksgiving

4. Planes, Trains, and Automobiles

It was only about 7 years ago I got back into this movie. Prior I had only watched it maybe twice since it came out. Now it's an annual watch like Christmas Vacation. So good. Maybe Candy's best. And I found it funny that Ryan Reynolds paid homage in Deadpool 2 with Wade reading Candy's book "The Canadian Mounted".

I don't know why but I always found Candy speculating what the temperature is possibly the funniest thing in the movie. "One?"

1. THE NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS

This is one of just a few musicals I like enough to own and one of the best stop motion animation movies of all time. Lots of colorful characters and lots of fun. I've watched this on VHS, TV, DVD and Blu-ray. Blu definitely shows off more of the detail and hard work that went into creating this movie.

A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving

SPEND THANKSGIVING WITH GOOD OL’ CHARLIE BROWN! Turkey, cranberries, pumpkin pie… and the Peanuts gang to share them with. This is going to be the greatest Thanksgiving ever! The fun begins when Peppermint Patty invites herself and her pals to Charlie Brown’s house for a REALLY big turkey party. Good grief! All our hero can cook is cold cereal and maybe toast. Is Charlie Brown doomed? Not when Linus, Snoopy and Woodstock chip in to save the (Thanksgiving) Day. With such good friends, Charlie Brown – and all of us – have so many reasons to be thankful.

The Mayflower Voyagers

The Peanuts gang tells the story of the 1620 Mayflower voyage from England to the new world detailing the hardships they faced, how the Natives helped them survive, and ending the following autumn in a feast of Thanksgiving.

Love these Peanut Holiday films, my cup of tea!

11-22

CAPTURE THE SPIRIT OF CHRISTMAS WITH THIS TIMELESS CLASSIC! Kris Kringle, seemingly the embodiment of Santa Claus, is asked to portray the jolly old fellow at Macy’s following his performance in the Thanksgiving Day parade. His portrayal is so complete that many begin to question if he truly is Santa Claus, while others question his sanity. A highly enjoyable Holiday film, my cup of tea!

11-23

We went to see this on our local big-screen theatre (went to this theatre when I was a youngster for Sat. matinees!) today!
Still hilarious had the crowd!!
Sold out theatre w/a classic Sylvester and Tweety cartoon throw-in!!!

It was built in 1922 in an Art Deco style, and was used for Vaudeville and silent movies. The theater was one of the first in the area to feature cool air when it installed a swamp cooler. It served as a full-time movie theater until 2000. Working to restore this Art Deco style theatre back to its original glory.

12-1

WHAT HE REALLY WANTED WAS TO SPEND THANKSGIVING WITH HIS FAMILY. WHAT HE GOT WAS THREE DAYS WITH THE TURKEY. A man must struggle to travel home for Thanksgiving, with an obnoxious slob of a shower ring salesman his only companion. Funny, classic festive film, my cup of tea!

12-2

Home Alone

A FAMILY COMEDY WITHOUT THE FAMILY. Eight-year-old Kevin McCallister makes the most of the situation after his family unwittingly leaves him behind when they go on Christmas vacation. But when a pair of bungling burglars set their sights on Kevin’s house, the plucky kid stands ready to defend his territory. By planting booby traps galore, adorably mischievous Kevin stands his ground as his frantic mother attempts to race home before Christmas Day. An absolute classic gem with all the right trimmings, my cup of tea!

12-3

An animated, magical, musical version of Dickens’ timeless classic “A Christmas Carol.” The nearsighted Mr. Magoo doesn’t have a ghost of a chance as Ebenezer Scrooge, unless he learns the true meaning of Christmas from the three spirits who haunt him one Christmas Eve... with razzle-berry dressing!

12-4

ONE OF THE BEST-LOVED HOLIDAY STORIES OF ALL TIME. One of the best-loved holiday stories of all time is back in this animated, musical version of Charles Dickens’ most famous tale. An all-star voice lineup features Whoopi Goldberg, Ed Asner, Michael York and Tim Curry as Scrooge. Come share the joy as cold-hearted Ebenezer Scrooge, the man who “bah-humbugged” his way through Christmas, discovers the true holiday spirit after he’s visited by the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Future. With original music and eight great songs, this uplifting, animated tale is destined to become a new holiday classic... my cup of tea ... "Santa's sootie suit"...

Tim Curry as Ebenezer Scrooge
Whoopi Goldberg as Ghost of Christmas Present
Michael York as Bob Cratchit
Ed Asner as Jacob Marley's Ghost
Frank Welker as Debit
Kath Soucie as Mrs. Cratchit, Ghost of Christmas Past and Fan
Jodi Benson as Belle
Jim Cummings as Ghost of Christmas Yet-To-Come
Jarrad Kritzstein as Tiny Tim

1/2

Journalist Elizabeth Lane is one of the country’s most famous food writers. In her columns, she describes herself as a hard working farm woman, taking care of her children and being an excellent cook. But this is all lies. In reality she is an unmarried New Yorker who can’t even boil an egg. The recipes come from her good friend Felix. The owner of the magazine she works for has decided that a heroic sailor will spend his Christmas on *her* farm. Miss Lane knows that her career is over if the truth comes out, but what can she do? Premise of the story was good in parts, but did not come through for me as I expected, except for Barbara Stanwyck.

12-6

local big-screen theatre

A holiday favourite for generations… George Bailey has spent his entire life giving to the people of Bedford Falls. All that prevents rich skinflint Mr. Potter from taking over the entire town is George’s modest building and loan company. But on Christmas Eve the business’s $8,000 is lost and George’s troubles begin. Still a wonderful, enjoyable masterpiece that will always be my cup of tea!( )

12-7

In this touching Christmas classic a young orphaned drummer boy is kidnapped. After he escapes he searches for his camel and finds him in the Nativity of the Baby Jesus. He gives Baby Jesus the only gift he has a song on his drum. This song is the only gift Baby Jesus responds to. True spirit of Christmas for me, also enjoy the Vienna Boys Choir singing... my cup of tea!

12-8

Line of Fire Parts 1 and 2

The holiday season holds little cheer for D.I. Jack Frost in this action-packed two parter. A local power station worker plunges to his death on the same day his home is vandalized. A crime squad detective is found murdered and the evidence points to police corruption. Frost takes the lead in the investigation and clashes with the dead detective's abrasive boss. The only season of A Touch of Frost that has a Christmas atmosphere. Always have enjoyed this series... my highest cup of tea!

12-9

The Stingiest Man in Town

MEET SCROOGE… This cartoon version of A Christmas Carol hails from the production house of Arthur Rankin Jr. and Jules Bass–the team that brought you just about every other Christmas special you saw as a kid (including Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer). Reinvented as a 49-minute musical ghost story, Stingiest stars the voice of Walter Matthau as the bedeviled Scrooge and Tom Bosley as the Jiminy Cricket-type narrator, B. Humbug, Esq. A magical delight that brings out the child in every one of us... my cup of tea!

12-10

1/2

Lovely Linda Mason has crooner Jim Hardy head over heels, but suave stepper Ted Hanover wants her for his new dance partner after femme fatale Lila Dixon gives him the brush. Jim’s supper club, Holiday Inn, is the setting for the chase by Hanover and manager Danny Reed. The music’s the thing. Great dancing/singing w/Bing Crosby Fred Astaire Marjorie Reynolds Virginia Dale...

12-11

The Christmas Story(a/k/a Dennis & Christmas)

Dennis goes crazy trying to find gifts. I've always enjoyed that little 'menace'!

12-12

Judgment in Heaven

Jarrod invites a client home for Christmas, not knowing that woman's convict boyfriend has recently escaped from jail. The Big Valley is one of my fav Westerns/shows overall!

12-13

Give or Take a Million

When two bank robbers trip an alarm, they try to hide but are transported along with a consignment of hundreds of gifts to a children's hospital. The crooks are captured and one lucky child gets the Christmas of a lifetime at Tracy Island. Thunderbirds Are Go!... my cup of tea!

12-14

I Love Lucy Christmas Special

The Christmas Episode

The Ricardos and Mertzes decorating Lucy and Ricky's Christmas tree and reminiscing about how their lives have changed since the arrival of the Ricardos' son, Little Ricky (Keith Thibodeaux). Flashbacks recall the night Lucy tells Ricky she is pregnant, the time Lucy shows up unexpectedly as part of a barbershop quartet and the day Ricky and the Mertzes rehearse taking Lucy to the maternity ward. Classic that transcends time... my cup of tea!

12-15

The Lone Ranger: “Christmas Story”

The Lone Ranger meets a young boy who's Christmas wish is to be re-united with his father. The Lone Ranger and Tonto go on a quest to find the boy's father and grant the boy his wish.

12-16

*The Snowman

On Christmas Eve, a young boy builds a snowman that comes to life and takes him to the North Pole to meet Santa Claus. 1st time watching, loved the animation, but...

Charlie Brown's Christmas Tales

The Peanuts gang have more misadventures at Christmas time. Another great classic christmas from the Peanut gang... my cup of tea!

12-17

A Charlie Brown Christmas

THAT’S WHAT CHRISTMAS IS ALL ABOUT, CHARLIE BROWN! When Charlie Brown complains about the overwhelming materialism that he sees amongst everyone during the Christmas season, Lucy suggests that he become director of the school Christmas pageant. Charlie Brown accepts, but is a frustrating struggle. When an attempt to restore the proper spirit with a forlorn little fir Christmas tree fails, he needs Linus’ help to learn the meaning of Christmas. One of my all-time favs at Christmas time... my cup of tea!

12-18

Frosty the Snowman

A living snowman and a little girl struggle to elude a greedy magician who is after the snowman's magic hat.

Linus and Lucy’s younger brother Rerun wants a dog for Christmas, and Snoopy’s brother Spike may be the answer. Another great Peanuts classic... my cup of tea!

12-20

An Episcopal Bishop, Henry Brougham, has been working for months on the plans for an elaborate new cathedral which he hopes will be paid for primarily by a wealthy, stubborn widow. He is losing sight of his family and of why he became a churchman in the first place. Enter Dudley, an angel sent to help him. Dudley does help everyone he meets, but not necessarily in the way they would have preferred. With the exception of Henry, everyone loves him, but Henry begins to believe that Dudley is there to replace him, both at work and in his family’s affections, as Christmas approaches. A fantastic film, with great acting & lovely sets! ... my cup of tea!

YULE CRACK UP. It’s Christmas time and the Griswolds are preparing for a family seasonal celebration, but things never run smoothly for Clark, his wife Ellen and their two kids. Clark’s continual bad luck is worsened by his obnoxious family guests, but he manages to keep going knowing that his Christmas bonus is due soon. Great classic w/many funny situations ... my cup of tea!

IF YOU REALLY BELIEVE, ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN. A little girl discovers dreams can come true if you really believe. Six-year-old Susan Walker has doubts about childhood’s most enduring miracle – Santa Claus. Her mother told her the ‘secret’ about Santa a long time ago. But after meeting a special department store Santa who’s convinced he’s the real thing, Susan is given the most precious gift of all something to believe in. An absolute delight for me. A superb remake and the actors were well cast, & for that darling little girl, yeah! ... my cup of tea for sure!!

It's Christmastime Again, Charlie Brown

Good morning, would you like to buy a Christmas wreath made from some junky old branches my brother found in a Christmas tree lot? You wouldn't would you? And I can't say I blame you. -Sally Brown A truly classy classic at Christmastime! ...my cup of tea.

12-24

An old bitter miser who makes excuses for his uncaring nature learns real compassion when three ghosts visit him on Christmas Eve. My absolute fav adaptation on Charles Dickens' classic Christmas tale... my highest cup of tea!

Some of my Charles Dickens/A Christmas Carol audio collection!

[Show spoiler]

12-25 Merry Christmas everyone...God Bless us all!

HER CHILD WOULD CHANGE THE WORLD. Mary and Joseph make the hard journey to Bethlehem for a blessed event in this retelling of the Nativity story. This meticulously researched and visually lush adaptation of the biblical tale follows the pair on their arduous path to their arrival in a small village, where they find shelter in a quiet manger and Jesus is born. My absolute fav of all my Christmas movies with it's great authenticity & beautiful story... my highest cup of tea!

11-22 - Miracle on 34th Street (1947)

CAPTURE THE SPIRIT OF CHRISTMAS WITH THIS TIMELESS CLASSIC! Kris Kringle, seemingly the embodiment of Santa Claus, is asked to portray the jolly old fellow at Macy’s following his performance in the Thanksgiving Day parade. His portrayal is so complete that many begin to question if he truly is Santa Claus, while others question his sanity. Absolutely one of my all-time favorite films!!

HE’S UP PAST HIS BEDTIME IN THE CITY THAT NEVER SLEEPS. Instead of flying to Florida with his folks, Kevin ends up alone in New York, where he gets a hotel room with his dad’s credit card—despite problems from a clerk and meddling bellboy. But when Kevin runs into his old nemeses, the Wet Bandits, he’s determined to foil their plans to rob a toy store on Christmas eve. One of my all-time classic funny-bones fav. films!

11/23:
Always the first two movies to go into the Blu-Ray player to kick off the holiday season right.

A Christmas Carol (1951)

An American Christmas Carol (1979)
These two still remains among my favorite adaptations of Dickens' story and always my first go-tos each year.
