Default Anyone buying 4k titles on BF but without a 4k tv?

Just wondering if some of you are buying 4k titles on Black Friday but don’t have a 4k tv or 4k player? Since some of these prices are so low on the 4k titles and the normal prices are much higher I am going to get 4k titles and know that they come with a blu ray so will use that until I get a 4k tv and player.

I've got a 4K TV but not a 4K player. I'm waiting until they're under $100, so it'll be a while.

I hope so. I even hope people with a ps4 or ps4 pro buy 4ks to futureproof for when ps5 gets released. Probably doesn't happen though.

I bought the shining in 4k. But only because that is the only way to get the re-scanned 1080p blu-ray disc. Don't currently have any plans to upgrade to 4K. My older eyes can't tell any difference.

I've started getting some as "future proofing" for my collection. I'm still watching the blu-rays...but I know that some day...

For the past three years, I've been buying 4K/UHD Blu-rays of wanted movies when they are available, in order to "future proof" my collection.

However, I do not yet have a 4K UHD player, and my current 4K television is an older one that does not have HDR or the right HDMI hookup to support the format.

Since standard Blu-rays look so good on my setup, I've not been in any hurry to update the television or player, but I know that it's just a matter of time before my player or my television start to die.

I started buying 4K movies early this year. Found a 4K Blu-ray player at a reasonable price (for me) and bought it and my receiver is also capable of playing 4K. My Samsung TV is only HD but it has an incredible picture and the audio coming through my receiver is downright amazing. My next TV will be a 4K but I'm in no hurry. (Currently with the Black Friday sales I'm sitting at about 90-95 4Ks).

I've been buying stuff in 4K since around the beginning of this year. I have an Xbox One X so I can play them but I haven't upgraded to a 4K projector yet. Waiting until prices on those come down into the "sane" region.

Quick question regarding this...

Would playing the 4K disc on a non-4K TV improve the audio at all?

I'm referring to Mission Impossible. The audio on the Bluray is DD5.1 (DVD quality) and the 4K audio is obviously much better but I don't have a 4K TV yet but I do have a 4K player. So would the audio be any better?

Does this question make sense?

Absolutely, I picked up about 24 titles. I also bought a new 4k player to replace my primary regular Panny which completely shit the bed. I bought the Panasonic UB420 at Best Buy for $150 and so far it is working really well. Scenes that are too dark on my Sony UHD player look much better on the Panny. Sicario 2 has a lot of great scenes to test this out. I just bought it hours ago, so I still have a lot of testing, but I’m really liking it so far.

I’ve been buying 4ks for years. I have two 4k TVs but no player until the PS5 is released.

I've been stockpiling discs for some time now and only have a UHD-BD player that I picked up - to use as a spare BD player - for $15 at a thrift store, with no UHDTV. I have over 100 titles and am buying several more for BF. I'm waiting to see how things will go next year with HDMI 2.1 and miniLED/microLED displays, before I go out and buy a TV. I'm hoping that Sony will put out some great display options to go with the PS5 and then I can buy one to go with my PS5 and use both with my discs.

The Sony UBP-X700, which has Dolby Vision, is $130 at all the big retailers this Black Friday. It's also available refurbished for under $100 on eBay. I picked up a used UBP-X800 a couple of years ago and have had no issues with it.

My little BDP7501 Phillips has been flawless. I think i paid just shy of 100 for it on sale a few years ago. Surely you can find something similar for around 100.

I don't have a 4K TV but I've been buying 4K BD since December 2017, and I just got a 4K player in May 2019... lol I figured I should get a player at least so I can watch the 4K discs instead of the normal BD, because 4K may not work and I won't ever watch the BD again anyway so it doesn't matter if it works or not.

There are some smoking deals for the One S out there. About $150 ish. While not a reference quality 4K player by any means it’s definitely formidable.

I play my 4K discs on my One X myself until Oppo 203/Panasonic UB820 quality players are sold for $200 ish which will probably start happening in the next year.

Of course no Dolby Vision support until now although it’s possible that MS adds it in the future. But HDR10 is still good (many discs don’t even have DV!) and its a great console as well. There is no better value in gaming than Game Pass.

Hell the Playstation 5 will most likely have a great quality player.

Absolutely, got 40 4Ks, and no 4K TV or player, but that'll be rectified by January, fingers crossed!

For now, the blu-ray and digital movies are enough for me to plan for the future and enjoy them today...

Depends on your audio setup. You won't notice a lot of difference if you're using an old AVR with only lossy decoding through optical or something like that, but if you have a lossless-capable setup then it'll definitely make a difference. Same goes for a lot of Sony and Fox titles which have better audio specs on the UHD, although in those cases it's not as much of an upgrade as, say, Dolby Digital to Atmos.

Yes only for 4K movies that are new or have remastered Blu-rays. Bought a couple of those $7.96 4K's from Walmart and Amazon because they were so cheap. Why not buy 4K?
