Surprised that this is not 3D. It seems like it would be well suited.

Day one. Here’s my movie content review from last night...

I have several bucket list activities that I would like to try at some point during my life. Being attacked by alligators while trapped in the crawl space of a flooding house during a Category 5 hurricane in Florida is not one of those bucket list items. This exact fate, however, befalls Haley, a swim scholarship college student played by Kaya Scodelario, when she drives to her childhood home in an evacuated town in order to check up on her estranged father, who is not answering his calls. Shortly after she discovers her father, played by Barry Pepper, wounded and unconscious in a dark corner, and attempts to drag him to safety, the first of many reptilian predators makes its introduction. A harrowingly intense nightmare ensues during the hours that follow, as our two protagonists, who are now at the bottom of the food chain, struggle to make their way to the upper floors of the home so that rescue personnel can be contacted.

The 2019 survival horror feature, Crawl, is a relentlessly taut B movie that wants nothing more than to entertain its viewers with 87 minutes of solidly fun summer escapism. By toning down the gore and sadism that defined his previous outings, namely Haute Tension (2003), The Hills Have Eyes (2006), and Piranha 3D (2010), without sacrificing any of his trademark raw emotional immediacy, director Alexandre Aja delivers on this promise in full and gives us the best when-animals-attack story in recent memory. An offbeat brand of dark humor is also at play here, since the extent to which the situation keeps worsening at every turn for our endangered leads elicits nervous laughter throughout the narrative.

I could throw a few barbs at this film's clichéd character development sequences and convenient contrivances during its final half hour, but the end result rises above those conventional shortcomings on the wings of its claustrophobic atmosphere, its escalating sense of genuine dread, and its many jump scares that enhance the tale instead of merely serving as gratuitous schlock. There's not much below the surface here, but simplicity in its own right can be just what the doctor ordered at the right time.

Crawl will not win any Academy Awards or go down in history as a game changer of cinema, but, for an hour and a half on a rainy summer night, it rocked my world.

The movie is visually great, it would be a waste if they didn’t released a 4K.

Crawl is a very short movie. It's only 87 minutes, and that's including the opening and the end credits.

If Paramount won’t release it on 4K then the least they could do is to include an extensive special feature about the making-of Crawl. Just like Piranha which has a 2-hour documentary about the making of the film and The Hills Have Eyes which has an hour of behind-the-scenes.

I’d imagine a 4K release will still happen. The film has only just opened and Amazon has just done the usual super super early preorder link hoping to snag those people who just saw it in the cinema and immediately want to own it. Paramount is at least a month or so away from officially announcing a home release. If they can do a 4K version of Overlord that only did $20 million at the box office on a $10 million opening weekend then I see no reason why Crawl won’t get one seeing as its opening is looking to be slightly higher ($11-12 million)
