Talking The Descent At About 26Mbps AVC!

I put The Descent in the PS3 and looked at the bitrates. It didn't drop below 30Mbps for a while! The audio also read 7.1 Ch. 48kHz @ 6.1Mbps. Could it really be 7.1 surround sound (box says 6.1)?!

I saw this title at the theater. This is an exact replica IMO! This title is absolutely perfect (from what I've seen so far)...a definite MUST HAVE! I wonder if this title will ever get rated on highdefdigest.com. If it is rated, over there, Peter will probably only give it 4.5 stars as usual.

in my opinion, this is one the stupidest movie i've seen. well the movie was good but the ladies just made this movie suck! put a bunch of women together and look at what they do.. not trying to be sexest, but man what a waste of 30 bucks.

you're welcome. sorry to come out like that, but the movie was good. just that some of the things that happen were so cheesy and lame. by BR are you refering to Blu-Ray? if so yes i saw it on blu-ray. i rate the pq at 3.5.

I don't understand how this movie sucked. If you have seen the movie Pulse which came out around the same time, people have compared both since both from independent film companies. Plus Pulse sucked major ass. Stupid story line. Aside from that The Descent was a good film in general and I view new movies at least 3 times a week so its easy to distinguish the lame from the good. Plus the women had accents which made the film sexier. Come on, if you are going to call a movie lame at least pay attention to it. Who doesnt want to see women kick ass and kill crazy creatures?

The Descent was a solid 4 out of 5 stars.

Unhappy Anyone else having problems with the Descent?

From the comments it looks like its playable, but in mt Sony, it seems to load OK, but about the time you would expect the menus to start, it gives no picture or sound, just read 000000 on the front panel and no fast forward, chapter skip, etc works. I reset the player, same result, Other discs play without problem.
Is there anything about this disc (settings, etc) that I'm missing?

HD-DVD fanboys should have no room to talk. I've had the Toshiba HD-DVD player since the launch day and I specifically remember Universal titles playing about 25 minutes of a movie and then locking up until a firmware release about a month later. Now the player just randomly freezes up. Also I believe during layer changes on Universal titles the audio jumps. As for The Descent not playing, this is the very first problem I've had with the Sony BDP-S1. If you go to Sony's site, they have a list of 4 movies (The Descent, League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen, Speed and Behind Enemy Lines) that have problems that'll be fixed when the firmware upgrade comes out. Hopefully the firmware upgrade comes soon because I was looking forward to this movie.

This is the only title that doesn't play on my BDP-S1. I can play those other 3 titles fine, I guess they just don't have all the BD-J capabilities yet. Too bad we'll have to wait a bit because this sounds like it is a great movie.

Does anyone know if it does play on the Panasonic? I was going to buy it this weekend but will hold off if it's not going to play.

I actually have Speed and Behind Enemy Lines and I don't have problems with either of those titles, except for the game on Speed. I haven't tried Behind Enemy Lines to see if there's a game on there or not. But Speed does have a somewhat long load time, but that doesn't bother me. I got used to long load times with HD-DVD.

It should have no issue with playing The Descent.

I haven't gotten my copy yet, but AFAIK, the Panny does BD-J so it should play without any problems, but I'll check it as soon as it arrives. Now, the picture-in-picure commentary is another thing entirely. I'm wondering how the Panny handles that?

I agree ...its a fine looking title....and the best looking darkly lit P/Q I have ever seen.

I just tried The Decent in both my Samsung player and my PS3 and it played in both. The Samsung took a little bit to load it up, but the PS3 played it much faster.

Decent is an interesting title. Its menu effect is varying on players!

On Samsung, least powerful player as to BD-J, the "search light" on the top menu simply "jumps" to the other menu item. On Panasonic, the "seach light" is moving (sliding) from one item to the other. PS3, the most powerful graphics poformance player, shows more smoothness and effect.

It seems that this disc does some sort of performance test during its loading period and changes the menu behavior depending on the result so that the user will not be "bothered" by player's poor performance. Interesting.

Hi all, first time post.

I was just wondering, for the people who have seen The Descent on BR, did it not look grainy to you, or maybe that is my setup? Also, Saw, which is from Lionsgate as well, looked grainy when close to the monitor. I'm using a 32" westinghouse hdtv and the PS3 with component hook ups.

Some slight normal grain in the few pitch black scenes.....but this is a reference title on my 110" DLP pj screen.
Saw is no where near reference and looks grainy and soft at times IMO.

Welcome. I didnt think Descent looked that great(good for a B movie). Heard Saw`wasnt that good either. Try MI:3 or Black Hawk.
