Default Fox exec: Playstation release will put format wars to rest.

http://videostoremag.com/news/html/b...rticle_id=9883

Also right on the front of our very own www.blu-ray.com

Quote:
“The demographics between X-Men and PlayStation 3 are a near-perfect match,” said Steve Feldstein, SVP of marketing communications for 20th Century Fox. “This is the biggest new release yet for Blu-ray, and we’re working closely with retailers and others to ensure that when people are buying their PS3s, they’re going to know they can get X-Men to play on it."

“PlayStation is by far the dominant game platform, and this should put questions about format wars to rest.”
Maybe, maybe not.

The PS3 will have a fairly signifigant impact on this, but obviously none of us will know for a while until the sales figures start rolling in.

Having big names titles like Xmen out in time for all this is a no-brainer in terms of smart marketing.

Xmen 3 is one of several marquee titles that are either going to be out or right around the corner in time for the holidays and in collusion with the release of the PS3 and the big boy stand alone players shortly thereafter.

It's all about the content.

What I think one can take away from this for sure is the death of some more HD-DVD fanboy FUD fodder: Fox is not going to be supporting HD-DVD anytime soon, if ever, if rhetoric like this is any indicator.

Yet another rumor that dies a quick death.

Lets hope that X3 does to Blu-ray what The Matrix did for DVD.

Shame on Disney and Sony for not giving us Pirates and Spider-man. (Hell if Fox can do a sneak attack so can they!)

And Warner's Batman Begins too!

I like how Fox is working with retailers on gettin the word out that the PS3 can play Blu-ray titles. This kind of campaign will make sure every owner of the PS3 will at least be aware of the format if they happened to miss out on the Talladega Nights bundle offer.

I'm not so sure those are out of the loop yet.

Case in point: This Xmen 3 basically just got confirmed here real recently.

Is it really out of the ballpark that none of the movies you just named might make it in time for Christmas?

I know Warner typically has brought out movies on HD-DVD first and then a few months later they come out on BD. That's the trend so far.

That's why I fully expect to see Batman Begins on BD sometime in the next couple of months or so.

We'll see...

I think it's possible Fox waited for confirmation that all systems were go with the PS3 before announcing X-Men. I don't think they'd be as eager to release this title without the PS3's backing, or else they would have done so already. Just my .02.

You know you'd be doing cartwheels in the street if this movie were coming out exclusively for HD-DVD.

Perhaps it is garbage but since it is the number 3 movie this year, it is hardly insignificant.

Edited.

I love the quote from the Fox Exec. Nothing wrong with confidence. Reminds me of the time Larry Bird walked into the locker room at the 3pt. contest in the All-Star game and said "okay who's coming in second". Brilliant.

I think its funny that the fanatics over on our favorite HD-DVD board are saying they are "upset" at Fox for not giving a heads up when the sd dvd was released. Pleeeze. If anything Fox was planning on releasing X-Men with the PS3 all along. The PS3 is obviously on schedule. Wait till Thanksgiving for the holiday blitz to begin. There are more than enough titles out on Blu-ray to keep the average consumer busy for quite awhile. Sony has been quiet lately. Let's see a Spidey announcement!

Well Blu-ray.com gave them a head up here:
X-men 3 11/14/06 too bad they aren't watching.

And if things follow the same pattern, Disney's Pirates announced for Dec 6 in Japan could show up soon too.
But as we know, it may show up on HD-DVD first!

Although cockroaches outnumber human beings, numbers alone do not denote superiorty.

Especially when you look at the current number of HD-DVD players sold vs. Blu-ray.

It definitely does not denote superiority.

Good point Hmurchison.. Something HD-DVD fanatics should consider...Blu-ray = superior durability, superior storage, superior bandwidth, superior studio support

Being into Home Theater gear, I'm all for superior

Yeah, sales numbers have nothing to do with profits or any of that...

And studios are much more interested in the quality of the movies - they don't care about sales or box office numbers at all.

The studios are there to make the world a better place. Money, ticket sales and profits are the furthest things from their minds.

This stuff you are on is pretty good - I am having a lot of interesting hallucinations!

For what it is worth I was never talking about superiority... just bums in seats and ticket sales.

I've put my HD DVD hat down on this one. The incrudulity of my post doesn't center around Blu-ray but rather how this marketing guy is making X-Men LS sound like it's the new Lord of the Rings or something.

King Kong beat it in global revenue so basically that means a bunch of US X-Men fanatics pushed US revenue up. It'll sell but it's not the movie that'll cause someone to buy a PS3 like the Matrix caused some people to buy a PS2
