Now I understand why the show had to change so much, and it is completely inconsistent with existing Trek universe. It is because of rights issue and agreement between CBS All Access and Paramount. CBS All Access could not leverage/use/exploit the likenesses or reference similar technology to the movie universe.

Like new Star Wars, by design it has to juggle 10x more which means 10x more chance for failure and 10x more chance at disgruntling *some* type of fan. This first season, however, is solid enough with some genuine bright spots and I'm eager to see how the show progresses with the main conflict arcs having been resolved nicely by the end of the first season. Also it's worth watching the live-recorded "After Trek" after show for each episode, as some of the producers/writers/designers/actors appeared every week and gave the chance to see why many decisions are made. |
