Default Help: Where to place surround on bedroom with limited space

Hi,

I am installing atmos speakers soon turning my 5.1 to a 5.1.4 system. Due to this, the rear atmos speakers will be very near my surrounds.

In this regard, I have 3 options:

1) Retain the surrounds where they are.

2) Move my surround speakers to the sides (location A). If this is the choice, is it a good idea to to retain my Mission M7DS (bipole) or change it to a monopole surround like the SVS elevation or KEF Q50a which points downwards.

3) Move my surround speakers lower (location B) although by doing this, there would only be about 2 feet distance between the surrounds and the MLP. (speaker easily localized?)

Rest of my system:

Room = small masters bedroom (14ft x 11ft with 9ft height)
Amp = Denon X4500h
Speakers = Kef Q350
Center = Kef Q650c
Rear = Mission M7DS
Ceiling = 4x Klipsch 6" in-ceiling speakers
Subs = 1x SVS PC13-Ultra
TV = Samsung 78"

note1: If I will move the surround to the sides, the distance of the speaker from the ceiling is only 10 inches and 9 inches from the rear wall

note2: If I will move the surround to the sides, the distance of the speaker from the MLP is approx 8 feet

(sorry for the picture, i can't get a full pic of the room so i just stitched it up quickly with photoshop)

Your surround speakers are way too high, they're not height speakers. Surround speakers are suppose to be positioned at ear level.

I understand this but as shown in the picture, I have no other choice so what I can only do is choose between the lesser evil.

Among the 3 options I've presented, what would be the best for you?

Have you considered moving your system to another room where you can position things properly to take full advantage of the technology that you have. That's the best option for you. If that's not an option right now, I'd suggest saving the money until you have the proper space for your system.

There might be the extreme option of taking the "A" offering, but putting them at a lower height. OK, one would be on the door, but with a little ingenuity, it could be done.

It would then be a case of playing with the 'distance' setting between ceiling, surround and back to get enough separation between them. This is in no way an ideal option, but with would at least allow some distinction between the channels. Another would be to put monopole speakers in the "A" position and employ brackets to angle them into a more downward-firing configuration. Again, this would involve playing with the 'distance' setting.

This really is an awkward situation, with any choice ending up a compromise.

For chrissake, feel free to utterly disregard!

They can remain in the same spot, just lower them.

So for you, you choose option 3 which is putting the current surround speaker to location B, right?

Yes. If you sit in bed to watch TV and your movies, you can put the speakers just a tad higher so they won't be hitting the top of your head.
